I have a feeling ometem won't be here long. You may have noticed he chose a very old post to resurrect to try and flame us!

Well I have been hunting here for a good 4 years and have tons of awesome treasures from your country! Some I dug with German friends Luxemburgers Belgians I even got a chance to dig with a university out of Trier. You are obviously very lost and have a very odd outlook on what is "Yours" my roots terace back to Europe so I have just as much claim as you have. I hope you stay on this forum you could learn some good information HH

Born and made in the USA!

Welcome to FMDF omletem.

Sounds like you probably got some wrong/bad information about America. Truth is, there has been people stomping around, and loosing stuff, for over 40,000 years in America. Just as your historical relics are "precious" to you ours are also precious to us.

Well said! I would much rather have a 40,000 year old item that is "made in the USA" than some 40,000 year old European piece of !!!!! To my European friends, just poking fun, you have some really nice historical relics.

hi,
I will replay on all your american suspicious questions. It's not true that Belgium or others Europeen countries are triying hide something, but we are protecting our tresures from people like(I am sorry) YOU, who are steeling our goods, our heritage. It is well known that Europe has much longer history then US. We have in our ground, things which are tousand of years old. Many people, mostly citizens, digging thouse tresures in secret and never show archeologists or heritage conservators what they had found. Many people like you taking those thing with you to your countries. There's no such precious things in US, belive me.

I would not be to concerned about what he has said.He sounds like a very troubled archie to me We get a lot of them over here.Sour grapes because we are finding what they would love to find.Omelet or whatever your name is,,, be a good boy and go and look for some more pottery will you.

Interesting that Belgium has an open policy on releasing information about UFO's but they won't let you metal detect. Somehow it seems odd.

I never could understand how an object rusting away under ground never to be found is better than I recovered no matter who does it. Maybe the United States isn't as old as most of Europe but our history is just as important to us. You wouldn't even be reading about these finds if it wasn't for those with detectors that have found them. If they hadn't found them, you wouldn't even know that they existed.

I didn't catch the original thread date. Yes, he was probably searching for any specific threads about detecting and Belgium. I agree that this is probably a bottom-rung archie trying to create a fight.

Last time I checked I believe there was a whole lot of American blood spilled on that land and thanks to that blood... YOU still live in Belgium and NOT Germany! (no offense to the good people of Germany)

Someone getting caught detecting in a forbidden area in the U.S. would not be so lucky. Here the authorities would automatically enforce the law to the maximum extent which would be jail time in most places, plus a big fine. Confiscating the metal detectors would be assumed, and they would never be recovered.

I guess what I'm saying is that you could be thankful for such a merciful law in Belgium.

He was totally in the right... The forest rangers were just idiots and wanted to take advantage of someone...

This is why I tell all my friends to be careful when you hunt outside the US.
Yikes!

Welcome to the forum.
Now I will replay on your poor attitude and lack of knowledge about history. Yes, you have lots of treasures buried in your soil, not the least of which is the blood of the US Military who served to save your ungrateful rear ends. It is a lot more about corruption and an ungrateful attitude than protecting treasures.

That is an excellent point. To omletem I will say that there are plenty of examples of Europeans posting American and other foreign WWI and WWII artifacts left there by our young men who volunteered to died protecting countries which they had no reason to care about. Young men who never knew what it meant to have a woman's love or a family of their own. Grandfather's who never were. Are their objects less precious than random coins discarded 800 years ago?

I also have serious doubts about how many Americans are making a point of travelling to Europe to do metal detecting, even if there are some it is obvious to everyone that the vast majority of old items being recovered are by Europeans. The youtube videos and forum and blog posts are everywhere. Don't believe the propaganda.

Simon, I think you are right this is a case of sour grapes because it is someone else finding these items.

I think I might have been inclined to tell then that there are many British and American artifacts from the first 40 years of the 20th century and you are looking for those. ;)

In all seriousness, though I do not agree with this law, Belgium does have a right to do this and while in the country their law must be respected. So, I would recommend detecting, and spending a little money, in the more enlightened countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom.

Couldn't said it any better. How quickly they forget.
