out here in SE PA winds are really starting to pick up at a constant blow not much rain yet. hope the power holds out an i wish all my tri-state hunting buddys luck out there be safe.

The storm is huge and shows NC and VA are starting to see big affects. As it passes please report in and tell us how you are doing! I am really concerned myself. I just watched the latest reports and the hurricane winds (cat 1) will be across about 10 states to include many of you guys who post here. It is huge.

If you can safely take photos or videos and post here I would love to see them. Max, you are not going fishing. Maybe you can show us a video? Thanks to you all. Be safe and be ready.

So far it hasn't been too bad here in the Williamsburg, Va. area. Monday is sopposed to be the worst of it with winds up to 40mph+ and lots of rain...Sandy, Sandy go away!!!

This storm is no joke...................Going to make a land fall right on my beach :shock::shock: Category don't matter with this baby ,it is huge and could make history .For all the Skimmers out there stay home till this is over ......................no amount of gold is worth getting killed ,this does look verrrry serious .

I was wondering my self what a SKIMMER is .Can you explain it to me??

Is a skimmer a new hunter?:?: is it someone who is not a member of
that south jersey beach hunting group???:?:

Midas just called me and we are
meeting up in the morning .. He just got his hookah system and I'm bringing five 10 gallon buckets to fill with the gold . It should be an epic hunt ..
If you don't here from me, it's not that I'm in danger, it's just that we are chilling in the Carribean :)

Stay safe my friends !!

You and Midas are gonna have a blast - I've just heard rumors, that he set his pc date one day ahead, and that it allowed him to download tommorrow's satelite pictures. He has a great list with all of tommorows riptides of the area, and has even made note about how much gold they will release.

There want be any flight to New York, but Santa claus has promissed to pick me up, and give me a lift to the US. - I'll be a little late, but I'll hook up with you for a quick hunt. :p

:laughing::laughing::laughing: Sorry, I just could'nt resist the temptation! :laughing::laughing::laughing:

West Chester Pa checkin in again. Rained all night, not much wind yet. Latest track shows a direct passover us. Gutters are cleaned out, spent all day yesterday cooking and freezing food in case we loose power. We always loose power in a storm. Tons of firewood stacked high and dry. Camp stoves fueled and ready. I'm on a well, so no power/no water. Have that taken care of as well. My biggest concern is trees falling. Live in a very wooded area, ground gets soaked and they blow over all the time.
Oh well, we'll survive. We've been in the past, on numerous occaisions, without power for several days. Just gotta be prepared.

My son in Lewes DE has decided to stay. He's prepped out, food, water, ice etc. He's gonna get crushed by this thing tonight. direct path for the center of the storm.

Midas brain is grey matter! Only guy i know who bought an excal and posted filling a gallon pail packed tightly with gold and filling a second half full all in six months. When someone else detecting for 35 years couldn't accomplish packing a pail that good:lol: Back end of the storm most likely will be a higher tide than the beginning.Anyone out there be careful. If you got to lose your detector if you are swept off your feet, just let it go and fight another day.Occasional set of waves at low tide can and will reach the high tide mark.Next thing you know, you are out to sea!

I thought that looked like EI pier. Didnt know if you had rode down that way. Im thinking about riding down to AB in the morning.

That's the pier. I have a place just down the road from there and I did check on it, but never had the chance to go to the beach.
I did see the sound and it was awash. May try to get back down after work today.
Have fun and be safe!

I think a skimmer would be someone who keeps his coil a foot above the sand and swings pretty fast looking for surface finds... BD correct me if I am wrong... ;)

I'm scratching my head here... I don't understand why people who don't even post here are the center of attention... I'm interested in only what our membership posts... I could care less about what happens elsewhere.

So far so good

Winds have really picked up and blowing steady. Just a fine mist of precip.

Hoping power lasts for much of the day but we'll see....:windy:

A tip

You guys are going to lose power. Find as many water jugs you can and freeze them. Fill your freezer and find neighbors who may have big freezers. When you lose power you can move them to the fridge to keep your food cold. As the water melts you can use it for drinking and cooking. Everyone should own a Coleman stove. Something to cook on. Good luck!

Hey guys down here in Cocoa beach area we got major beach erosion. Low tide was like extreme high tide. The winds were bad about 40 mph at times, but we dodged a very large bullet. I went down to Seabastian inlet area after it passed and saw about 30 mders working the area. There were big cuts and a lot of trash but found nothing of value. Our beaches got striped of sand about 4 ft. So there a good posibility of some old drops. The waves were the best surf Fl's. ever had, my step son is the best surfer on the plant and he went down to Boynton beach and caught 20 ft Waves he told me it was kinda spooky and that says a lot coming from him.I'm thinking a praying for the folks in Sandys path, take care and be safe.

I'm waiting for you to find some gold again, so I can once again make you the center of attention...

In another thread a member accused us being unfriendly and said to grow up for some unknown reason , yet the party they are defending, who you claim is the center of attention, has used all of those uncomplimentary terms that I quoted from their statements to describe newbie hunters and I think certain members of this forum ;)

So being that I am not a lamb that is ready to go to the slaughterhouse, I tend to get defensive and question who is really the unfriendly party here...

You are right in that the real party does not post here and most likely cause they do not control the DELETE button, but there are some of his minions which do post here and are attacking us for posting a few hunting locations is totally uncalled for..I don't see you questioning them for their reasons for this behavior and that has me scratching my head...

Craig I ma tell ya like this.
I don't think anyone who doesn't contribute
to the FDMD is the center of attention at all!!

How ever I do think some rude and arrogant comments may be
at the center of attention in the metal detecting community.

When you have a person claming that he wants to help new folks in

the hobby out of one side of his mouth, then this person mocks and knocks
a new hunter out of the other side of his mouth because he doesn't like that persons hunting style that gets under peoples skin.

He doesn't post on this site often because he has no control here.

You remember playing ball in the st. as a kid? Remember the little rich
kid who didn't like being called out?? The little rich kid would take his ball and bat
and go home!!! All about control! That is what this person reminds me of.

It's ok for him to make videos of the beach he feels like. "AC"

But if you make mention of his honey holes Longport,Margat,strathmere- etc

then his yellow shorts get all bunched up!!! It can't be one way
if one person wants to video AC till the cows come home.He shouldn't go crying to mommy
when he see's his honey holes posted.

I don't question them because they don't exist for me... they don't post here nor will they... treat them like that and you will be alot happier. bottom line who cares what they think... if you are happy posting where you hunt fine... personally I think anyone who posts locations is only hurting themselves and sharing with thousands of eyes on the net which means sooner or later targets will become scarcer and scarcer.

My camera remains at home.

OK lets get back to the theme of the thread guys. Do I have to moderate?:laughing::laughing:

Gov Malloy was just on. He is the Conn gov and he said you guys are going to get bashed. Craig, did you get your new waders yet? Might need them around the house.

What exactly is a skimmer, besides something people use for their pools ??
I read some other uncomplimentary terms today about fellow detectorists, from one of the local so. Called "experienced hunters" .. Besides Skimmers, he also called people Rocket Scientists, knuckleheads, petty lurkers, faceless, cronies, machete hackers, hip swingers and a few other unfriendly terms ..
Maybe you could help clarify for me what he means by all of these terms, since his site is supposed to be very friendly and helpful to newcomers ..
Possibly I am just one of the uneducated that is clueless :)

Any help would be appreciated .

Stay safe my friend ..I'm downbeach from you and it's not looking pretty
Ok let me clarify some things :grin:Skimmer is a definition of the person that does not hunt on regular bases ,does not have the right equipment for hunting ,for example using gardening trowels for digging on the beach ,does not follow the unwritten rules for filling the holes and removing the garbage of the beach , only comes out after major storms in the winter ,runs fast and in the straight line swinging his machine like a machete LOL so only skimming the top 2 inches of sand  Also driven by the grid does not have enough experience or common sense to avoid hunting in the conditions like right now:laughing: So being friendly, we have to protect them from getting killed by posting warnings :laughing::laughing:If anyone finds them selves matching definition oh well, it is time to either learn things and change to a normal hunter or get mad and call me names ;):laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Can't wait to see all the finds that will surely come out in the next few days..
Stay safe guys and HH after the storm...
