I'm sitting here waiting for the full effect. I'm in SE PA and we are being told it is going to be bad. I'm not alone.

are just a few forum members I know and have hunted with that are in the target zone with me. We got nailed by by 7+ inches of rain last year. It was bad. Basements were big time flooded. Anyways detecting is taking a back seat. We were all set to hit the beaches in NJ until they said it was ground zero. Now we just pray the power holds out to run the equipment. Did I mention we are in full peak for leaves. The trees would be better off with out leaves on them. Less resistance to the wind. Plus the storm drains are going to clog. We have been dealt a handful of lousy cards. Including the Lunar tide.

Rebel, that is really sad news. They are your neighbors? I saw one in hospitalized with hypothermia and the second is missing. I am sad to say he is probably gone. Always wear your PFD when kayaking. I always did for safety. Hope he is found for the family's sake. That is really sad.

They are calling for a 11 to 15 foot storm surge where I am in connecticut our shoreline communities are 4 to 6 feet above the water meaning alot of flooding... Joe heard on the news they are saying it could be worse than the 38 hurricane...

That was a scary video. It appears the storm will directly hit Jersey. Coupled with the moon phase high tides and storm surge there will be extreme flooding. Not just the coast but also well inland. We got NO rain from the storm as it passed northern Fl, just winds and huge surf. The problem is when it hits land the 2 fronts coming from north and west will cause it to stall. At that time you can expect 3 days of really bad weather for a huge area before it runs out of energy. The inland flooding may last a week. The lowest barometric pressure seen in a long time means it is sucking air into the center like a tornado. Get canned food and fill your bathtubs with water now.

I think that Katherine Hepburn was in that storm back in the 30s, when her family home was washed away. I think I saw it a PBS Doc.

That was bad, but I think this has the potential to be worse, with more building standing than then.

Yea it's sad news but my 1st thought was WHY would you go out that far off shore w/o a PFD as well as a major storm bearing down on us. They're saying it's going to break records from the Hurricane of 1938.

I don't know them. I worded it badly. Ment to say it happend just down the street from me.

Waiting ...just outside of Manhattan. Went to the beach earlier it was completely sanded in with new soft sand under foot. A few miles to the east on the exposed ocean beaches my friend scored with some decent gold. This thing is a monster, be careful what you wish for cause I wished to get down to the hard pan. Looks like when this is over I may get my wish. I just hope no lives are lost and everyone stays safe out there. It's suppose to get bad here around midnight and crescendo around midnight Monday. I'm in a evacuation zone haven't been called yet.
No subways or buses nothing on the streets it's eerie. Ill report back as long as I have power. I can tell you if I can get to the beach on Tuesday and that's a big IF it's going to be off the hook!

I honestly think its gonna be an epic flop. Yes rain and wind will be had but nothing to justify the publicity this storm is getting. A tornado ripped through my hometown in pa a few years ago. It levelded half a dozen homes and closed hundreds of roads, that story was hardly on the news. It's not going to b anything we haven't seen before. Justa bunch of hype and hoopla

Bob you are in the projected trouble area. Please keep us up to date as best you can. Fill up your bathtub with water. You may need it to drink if the water supply gets trashed. Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!

Midas has one hooka and it has doobie and not tobacco. Not that doobie is bad, just he is brain damaged and tobacco will not help his tiny grey matter to process necessary responses. Midas? Damn where has that gold baron gone? I remember his gallon of gold. What a wonderful person. His camera was broken so he never could post pics. He is a legend.

BIG the deal is the storm surge. The tides will be well above normal without the storm. With the storm they will be 3 times as high. Storm surge causes more deaths and damage than wind or rain by far. Be ready. Flooding along the coast will be a killer. Hope your are right but I think you are wrong.

What exactly is a skimmer, besides something people use for their pools ??
I read some other uncomplimentary terms today about fellow detectorists, from one of the local so. Called "experienced hunters" .. Besides Skimmers, he also called people Rocket Scientists, knuckleheads, petty lurkers, faceless, cronies, machete hackers, hip swingers and a few other unfriendly terms ..
Maybe you could help clarify for me what he means by all of these terms, since his site is supposed to be very friendly and helpful to newcomers ..
Possibly I am just one of the uneducated that is clueless

Any help would be appreciated .
