help me! V3I or E-trac

I just got an ETrac. Our soil here is terrible, red clay, iron ore. I found a clad dime at 7.5 in, whereas the ML X305 only went 5in.

Consider an ATPro, too. Being in Montana you might be able to prospect. ETracs FBS is no good on small, <1 -2 gm nuggets from what they say. It is great on gold rings, 5-30gms, etc, they are mostly nickel anyway. Gold bug, ML 705, too.

Reading all this has gotten me all frustrated. I'm happy that I swing a Tesoro.;)

They get the job done and are really fun and easy to use.

Tesoro owners are happy people.:)

Ad claims are not always factual in the real world

The E-Trac is a multi frequency machine.

Some say it is not a true multi freq machine and their arguments make sense.

I can tell you this; from what I know about computer microprocessors and their circuitry after more than 25 years of building and maintaining computer hardware. I doubt very seriously the E-Trac has 28 discrete send/receive circuits in that tight package. And it makes my brain hurt to imagine the serious compromises it would require to do so in that small a form factor. :?: So can it transmit multi-frequencies? Absolutely! But not receive and discretely evaluate each!?! Nope, that would take major processing horsepower and a much bigger package for the cooling alone. Or it would be incredibly slow with less processing power, and it is not slow at all. My Garrett GTI 2500 can transmit on multiple frequencies, but it remains a single freq detector. THAT point is a big reason why I am not buying an E-Trac. Please note; I did not say it is a bad machine. Quite the contrary, it is a very impressive machine and I was personally on the fence between a V3i and an ET for quite some time. The techie in me won the argument and I just bought a V3i.

Not in my world

There is a reason that V3/V3i's sell for 700-800 used (more than 50% off retail) and E-Trac's sell for $900-1000 retaining more than 65% of it's retail value.

Would you mind turning me on to some of those 700-800 V3i's????? :wow: I would not mind buying more to make the extra $200 - $300 over what you say is their price point. $1000 is the sweet spot for V3's and that is all over the market.

I just bought a used V3 (upgraded to i) that is coming with a couple option coils that I already have offers for at $300 more than I payed for it. I got it for $1200 and thank God I did. But I am keeping it because I have been looking for a used V3 for the past 2 months.

Any V3 advertized close to the $1000 mark has been scooped up moments after the ad runs because I have been trying to find one myself. There is a guy in the area from Redlands California (on Craigslist) that is selling an E-Trac (in the box) for the past month for $1000. I have noticed he has posted it 3 times and still has it as of yesterday. I get new ad alerts on my phone you see, because like I said, I have been looking - aggressively.

The forum classifieds my be different but that is not the only place people buy and sell used hardware. :p

This is a true statement. Everyone has told me the V3 takes time to get to know. It is not a beep and dig detector. The E-Trac will get out of the box results.
thanks for al your comments,,,, this one dose not really matter to me,,, what ever machine I pick I will not have a problem learning how to run it no matter how long it takes,,, it's more important that it be the better of the two,,,,,, just have to figure that out for myself
I think some supportive members OR sponsor should just send me one of each for a month or two to help me decide <<<<<

I think both are misstatements. Anyone who has used the E-Track knows that the "out of the box" settings will miss all the deep targets.

Additionally, the V3 has 6 preset programs that all you need is to turn it on, perform a ground balance and you are good to go. Of course, the V3i, like the ML,you will miss the deep targets with the factory presets.

You all on this forum are freaking awesome!!!

I started this thread to get some info on these machines! And man did you all get to work and laid it all on the line and I have gotten an amazing lesson on them! Thank you all so much! HH and keep on swingin!!
