Gold Rush: Alaska Tv show..

I've been watching this on youtube, all the full episodes were posted by drronpaul or similar name, but they were just removed...It was nice to be able to watch 40 something minutes uninterrupted. But..... it's amazing these guys haven't killed each other yet, or at least had a major accident.,..

Yeah, Harness was the only halfway decent guy on that show, but he really turned into a whiny baby in that last episode. Whether or not you poured your blood, sweat, and tears into the design of the shaker, you still need to listen to the veteran who's telling you that it's build incorrectly. Swallow your pride and make the fix. All of the guys on that crew need to talk less and listen more.

The other half refuses to watch the show anymore due to their excessive use of the term "glory hole" and being a family friendly site I will leave it at that

It must have sucked to know that the amount of gold in the buckets that they stock piled since the begining only held about 2.00 and some cents in gold:wow: they were'nt happy. Todd had more money invested in buckets than gold:lol: . They had a buddy come up with a prototype machinge I thought was pretty cool it seperated the fine gold from the black sand that was neat. I do feel bad for'um though because if he didn't have a patend on it some company will snag it out from under him.

I wonder why they did not have and use a MD to help them with their search. (:-O)

I got a feeling that if they all had a metal detector and spent the five months metal detecting for gold they would have found a lot more than they did and spent a lot less money doing it.

I think Todd actually called themselves "a bunch of idiots" in this last episode.
I'm more convinced than ever that this show is 90% show and 10% guys hunting for gold. But the 10% is juuuuust enough to keep me watching because of being recorded...I can fast forward through all the whining, but man it sure makes for a short show that way!

As it approaches the season finale, here is my summary of what went wrong with the expedition featured on the show Gold Rush, or as I like to call it, "Fool's Gold":

1. Poor leadership. If one flaw underscores everything, it is this one. Success or failure of any expedition comes down to its leaders.

2. Near total lack of preparation, particularly research. I've learned more reading one book on Gold Mining than all these guys knew together heading up there. Gold Mining in the 21st Century, but Dave McCracken (no affiliation). Not to mention the online resources like metal detecting and mining forums. And oversights like not bringing metal detectors? By very definition they were there to detect metal! And how did they not bring ONE blue bowl?

3. Overemphasis on personal comfort. One gets the idea this was a vacation.

4. Working harder, not smarter. In general the two need to be happily connected, but for the most part it seems lots of hard work was used to replace a lack of planning and smarts. And they did it repeatedly, until finally calling in an expert in something, or having one thrust on them. Which is fine if you don't have any brains, but most of these guys did. And to bill their efforts as somehow representing Americans is almost embarrassing. Sure, there are millions who work hard and would do just what they did. But I'd like to think there are some of us who learned the lessons from the gold rushes because we studied history. MOST MINERS WENT BROKE due to lack of planning...it happened by the thousands in California and Alaska. They spent their life savings just getting to the gold "fields" and had no idea what to do then...thought they just be picking up the gold off the ground. They weren't prepared to mine, for the weather, etc.

Just imagine if they had gone into this we solid leadership, prepared with the correct gear and information, sacrificed some comforts, and had put brains slightly in front of brawn. On second thought, maybe the title "Rushing to Gold" might be even better than "Fool's Gold".

I agree with you, Clayton, on all points. I think they spent more time whining than working. The guys that weren't doing anything could have been panning the buckets. Now they have the guy with the machine there, they don't have to pan. Where was this guy before?! A machine like that doesn't get built in a day, so it's been around a while. Why didn't Todd bring him in long ago? What they don't do for ratings on these 'reality' shows! One more episode to go. Let's see what happens there.

Clayton I think your quote is very well said! The one thing that struck me as odd was bringing their families? That was an off the map example of poor leadership. The distraction factor, the kids playing safety factor, the bear factor, the feeding all those extra mouths economic factor.

For me it would have been like going into combat. A clear plan and strong leadership coupled with teamwork and execution. And by the way if they were insisting on bringing the caravan of family members with them then they should had ever one of their happy A**'s panning for gold everyday.

I think they could make a million off using the show as a training series on avoiding poor leadership mistakes. And what was up with the old man driving the excavator and doing what the heck he felt like doing. I was waiting for them to pull him out of that thing and say "Hey Pop's we are tying you to a tree until you can follow directions". It was like watching a train wreck.

It makes me laugh every time they are panning with a pile of soap bubbles in their pan. I know that will help the flour gold from floating, but they dont have to have bubbles. IMO the old man is higrading the flour gold, he's the only one in the tent while weighing the gold.

Are they ever going to find that nugget that they have shown in the opening credits? I do feel bad for that dude thats been hauling buckets of black sand for months since it turned out that the buckets are worth more than the gold in them.

I Read the info on this weeks upcoming episode

Its on Dish Network's viewing guide for this friday
The Glory Hole collapses around the excavator
Winter sets in BIG time !!

They are idiots. Never spend 2 dollars to make 1 dollar. A metal detector, a gold pan, a 4 wheel drive, a couple months of vacation, and a bank roll of discretionary income not a second mortgage on your house is how you do it. Or better yet apprentice yourself to someone who knows what they are doing first and learn on their time and their dime. IDIOTS!
