Finally got the Holy Grail of Indian Heads! 1877!

Absoluelty awesome! You owe your brother the cold beverage of his choice. I would absolutely grid that place .... I smell a silver!

Congrats....awesome finds....I'd hit every inch of that place...

Nice job! Just goes to show that brother knows best... Of course, you know there are more coins around that well just waiting to be recovered. Looking forward to the "rest of the story"... Congrats!

Awesome find again Tony!! Congrats to you! Just sit and stare at it, I am sure that will never get old, especially since you found it where you did.

Awesome find! Is the wording wore just on one side or does it just look that way in pic.? OF AME.... (of America)The other side looks real sharp so I was looking at pics and didn't see any others that looked wore like that so it got my curiosity up. Thanks and keep pounding that place ;)

Yes, part of the word AMERICA is missing on the obverse. I don't think it's worn that way, I think maybe it was caused by a weak strike, or perhaps part of the die was filled with grease.

Wow! Considering what most of my dug indians look like, I'd say its in fantastic shape too. Amazing find! Now go find that '16d merc that's waiting for you out there.

FANTASTIC!!! You've hit the Holy Grail of Indian Head's! Dont' rub it any more!!!! If you feel the need to clean it further, there are folks here who will give you good advice on what to do so as not to put any scratches on her. She's a beauty and looks to be in quite good shape. Congrats to you on your wonderful find. : )

Fantastic story and fabulous finds. It's doubly great that you got to share the excitement with your brother.
As frankiefry so aptly says, don't overclean the coin yourself. My miserable experience has taught me to love a slightly grody coin or take it to a jeweler for professional cleaning.
"Miserable experience" with coin cleaning you say? Yep, I found a really nice 1901 Lincoln, spit cleaned it and the date popped right out. Came back to the RV and used my denture brush to clean it a little more....the entire front of the coin disappeared leaving me with nothing more than a blank disk:crying:

Awesome find! And a huge congrats!!!

On a side note, great appreciation in value for a penny, huh? From what I see, even in "good" condition, its upwards of $500. And hour's seems better than that........ Sweet.......

Awesome find! So, i guess you'll be back out there soon?

Yes, my dad and brother are going to clear the area of saplings, scrub brush and fallen branches and then my dad is going to mow the entire area with a Bush Hog. I will definitely be detecting the site again in the future. Right now it's so difficult to swing the detector that it's truly a miracle that I was able to find anything. I'm sure there are more coins and relics there.
