Everyone in Michigan

Live in Traverse city just bought my first detector MineLab X-terra305 and looking for some others to go with.

Finally! Someone else in Traverse City.

I've hit quite a few parks here in TC and they've all been hit pretty hard. I'm sure there may be some silver laying around somewhere but I haven't seen any yet. :(

If I were you, I'd start knocking on the doors of some of the old resorts along the bay. Some are small and old, and might be easier to score permission before tourist season starts.

I remember seeing Def Leppard at the Free Fair in like '88 and Metallica in '94 and it was about 4million degrees out both times and they kept hosing ppl down...was horrid...never really went again(grew up in Wyoming/GR, moved to Clarksville/Strawberry Lake just after high school..now in the U.P.).

Sometimes miss being back home...

ok..going to wax nostalgic here for a few.....

all great places to hit (just a few) if I were back home:

Riverside Park (been there forever, plus the pow wow every year)

Lamar Park (I grew up across the street and it's huge, the green patchy walking area to the NW actually was a lake for decades..we used to swim there when I was little all the way to high school.)

Johnson Park (be careful of the Indian mounds..kent trails rd across the river from the mounds road),

John Ball Park (from the 1800's!!)

The NW corner of Wilson and Lake Michigan drive used to be a drive in theater...then it was a paintball/woods kind of thing..not sure what it is now.

Reeds Lake...way way back in the day..I'm talking back when my grandfather was a young boy and was in an orphanage (the blodgett home for boys..which is now Grand Rapids Jr College), the entire Reeds Lake area was an amusement park called Ramona Park. There has to be tons of stuff in there...was there from late 1800's til 1955....

k..i saw pics online of the house I grew up in and houses of all of our neighbors who are either dead or in their 120's....

GL hunting!

Bob Johnson told me where the amusment park was is built over with doctor offices and such and a lot of the dirt was haulled out. My Dad told me of the amusment park as well. I was told long ago about a site I found looking at old plat maps of Grand Rapids where a fair ground was. My Dad's friend run away from home at 13 and he traveled with the circus they come in to Grand Rapids and unloaded and road the Elephants and horses downtown. My Neighbor from the 1970s told me of going out their back doors and down to watch them set up I did a little looking back in the mid to late 70s but never found anything old with a GroundHog by Garrett. go back in from Hall or Buchanan in Grand Rapids and you'll be in the area. It is on a 1897 plat map.

Im in the Oscoda, Tawas, Hale area. From the sunrise side of the state, with the best fishing in the whole state. Salmon and Steelhead runs are fantastic.

I went to the site listed here (http:www.michiganmetaldetecting.net) and it's just ads. No real site. :(

I am on home leave in September and will spend a week in Gennie/Oscoda area. I would love to go out and detect with someone. I'll have my machine with me, along with sand scoop if we are doing beach sand. I have heard that there are hidden remains near Glennie of an old town that was burned to the ground by the Great Oscoda fire in 1911 and never rebuilt. Anyone found this site?

Anyway, if any Michiganders want to go out sometime between 13 Sep and 01 Oct, please contact me!

Hey all, Im new the site and also to metal detecting. I live in Southwest Michigan so if anyone lives around there and wants to put up with a newbie and help him out, give me a PM or something.

Jim
