Ever wonder whether those were really found yesterday, or found at all?

Dan, funny that you should mention gold coins as that was the topic of one of the posts. something was just not right.

Congrats on your finds!:D
By the way...I dug up that gold 914 too. It was in pristine condition even after spending 30+ years buried in salt marsh. Rang up as a Mem but I dug it anyway.:laughing::laughing:

Reminds me of the Edsel I once dug up. Rang in as a pulltab. When I saw what it was, I wished it was a pulltab.

My take on it is simple. It does happen and will continue to happen. There are those people who are on ego trips and those who spend a lot of money on a metal detector so they have to show something to justify spending that much money on a machine. I only believe those vids that show full digs where they show the readings, hear the sounds, and then show the dig. There was even one of them where it was fake because as soon as he put his lesche in one side you could see the whole outline of the plug before he got to the other side. People are people, some are honest, some are not. You choose what you want to believe.

"where they show the readings, hear the sounds, and then show the dig. There was even one of them where it was fake because as soon as he put his lesche in one side you could see the whole outline of the plug before he got to the other side"

I've noticed that also. After those observations, I have begun to doubt anything in pic or video without a ton if scrutiny. Pulling a plug and immediately seeing the coin in the hole happens almost never IMO. Seeing an outline of a previously dug plug and movement during the new dig, was sad to me. martin

I once posted that it took me 30 minutes to find what I was posting. I had some good stuff that day. All of a sudden, I was being called out on the time it took..then I realized I forgot to type "three hours" in front of the 30 minutes. I sat in the corner the rest of the evening..My Bad.

You beat me to it!

It's always a relevant topic. Here's a perfect example:

GToast is right.. It is ALWAYS a relevant topic. I vote for insecurity as the main culprit. Insecure individuals that would sell their sister into slavery to be "one of the guys." They will say or do anything to be "in." My vote for the second reason goes to financial gain.. Selling a book, machine, computer program, blog - whatever. The mentality that "You are only as good as your latest find." Sad..

In all walks of life we have Honest and dishonest people. Handing a Liar a metal detector Don't make them Honest, it makes them a Liar with a metal detector!

My finds are so meager, you know they'ge got to be real. Line from old Roger Miller, "I made it up myself and I don't lie.." I won't question anyone about their finds.

A site I frequent was producing many seateds, barbers, indians and relics every time I went out with no letting up.A few of the coppers were corroded beyond recognition while others werent corrroded at all.Dont know why.I would have not believed a site could produce like this if I hadnt been there myself.Took forum members here with the same results. Some places are just taylor made for this hobby.I have my story being posted on whites website in december.;)

Taking psychology into account, people on multiple MD forums may be more apt to embelish their finds. However, I do tend to believe the awesome coin finds more than the incredible relics dug by newbies.:blush2:

KT has some very nice old coins in his Coin Collection, but these are kept separate from those in His Royal MD collection...Why? Because one is an investment and the other is a hobby. And over the years, KT for one has gotten much more pleasure out of his hobby than his investments!:laughing:

KT is one of them that keeps posting that "new looking change from totlots"...Well let me tell that poster, if KT was finding some old cap busts and mercs and SLHs ....you bet He would be showing em in here and bragging about them too!

Sorry but the enthusiasm of this hobby is to show folks what you dug up...whether it is common or rare, unique or bizarre. What KT loves most about the hobby is you never know on any given site what you might dig up!
