They did what they are trained to do. Assault and arrest a non lethal metal detectorist. Lord knows your a lot easier to deal with than a real criminal. And I take offense to people telling me the cops are here to protect me. HA! thats a joke. They can't even protect themselves. The only one to protect me and mine is me. Period. Sorry for your misfortune but ya should not have been somewhere you knew you should'nt be and you should not have ran. Or ya should have at least run faster. WOLF

If it was illegal to hunt where you were hunting then they can take away your equipment and not have to give it back... Personally I don't think you have a leg to stand on because you ran...
 
so many hostile responses. I wasn't looking for sympathy, just telling you my experience. I know I was wrong. You don't have to point it out to me. I guess I've just never had anything like that happen before.

This thread is a perfect example of what not to do.. sorry but its the truth...

Like poaching a deer from a vehicle.....your out of a vehicle, a weapon, and in jail.
 
I dont buy the story at all, not a bit. Give me a source.. most newspapers report when cops are called out to places, especially in the smaller towns in this state.

On a side note, what kind of idiot detects at 3am, on historic property they dont have permission to hunt, then complains when they get busted? Come detect on my property at 3am and you'll get your ass shot!

Since your bright idea about running has been addressed numerous times already I won't give my 2 cents on that.

As far as destroying your detector, he had no right to do that. Confiscate yes, destroy no. Your problem is proving that he did it. You can (and probably should) file a complaint. If that doesn't do anything then take him to small claims court.

If you're feeling particularly ballsy, you can try and sue the entire police force but without any kind of evidence you'll just be spending a lot of money for nothing.
 
this wasn't historic property. btw. It was in the middle of city in a common area. It was like a parking lot almost and part of a over grown field on the edge. I did my research enough to know this is near where he set up shop. I know I had no permission to be there. I am not an angel. I never said I was. Yes I found a few things, but nothing significant. Everything I found was junk. A few pennies. Shredded cans mostly, bottle caps. Some newere coins. Nails. I wasn't there that long as I said. Aluminum scrap. I am glad the same 2 or 3 people keep keep replying to this trying to discredit me. I'm not looking to sue anyone. I know I was wrong. This is why the internet sucks, I am telling you what happened to me. Obviously I am not going to give out specific information. The cops let me go and I am not looking to cause more problems. It happened in lower michigan close to Ohio. I will not give out any other info. Lesson learned. Just be careful out there.
 
Way to ruin it for the rest of us. Today I was in a park doing some detecting on the volley ball courts. The courts happen to be right by the metro park police headquarters. I looked up the local laws and ordinaces. I read the signs as I entered the park. I knew I was in the ok.

So as I was detecting there were four cops standing twenty yards away from me. One started walking up to me so I took my head phones off and said hey. All he wanted to know was how much the machine cost and a little about what I was finding.

What would have happened if I ran? Probably been tackled and handcuffed. You know why? Because it looks SUSPICIOUS!!!

This is why archies hate us because of people like you doing shady stuff at night on other peoples property.
