Do I still get to be in the silver dollar club?

I am in Indiana for a long weekend and volunteered to look for my daughter in law Trish's mom's gold class ring that she lost fifty years ago. After a few pieces of junk I hit a 30-31 on the Equinox and said "This isn't a gold ring but I'm digging it." I dug a wider plug than usual to be safe and sure enough, saw that big reeded rim pop out - 1923 Peace dollar in nice shape, my first. I got to fondle it for a minute or two then handed it to Trish's dad - he believes it was his father's. A few feet away I found a Buffalo, and ended up popping two rings but not the class ring, so maybe on my next visit I'll find it. Also a pendant from the local high school that Trish's aunt must have lost. Anyway, hopefully club membership is based on finding a silver dollar, not on keeping it!

Fantastic story, Kevin! And yes, that absolutely counts - even more so with a meaningful give away! Pretty cool that you got to dig a few items that had potential family connections, as well! That pendant is pretty darn cool!

A couple of Paul Harvey "Rest of the stories" - Trish's dad's dad had collected some old silver dollars, and one day he returned home to find that they had been stolen along with some other valuables. This one wasn't horribly deep and possibly was dropped by the thief. And the big Spiderman ring was lost at my grandson's birthday party 20 years ago. I am here for his college graduation and we 'presented' it back to him today.

love those 'punk rocker' liberty dollars! Best of all you paid it forward for all of us by giving it to the owner.

Congratulations on your first silver dollar! I may not have any say since I'm not in the club, but I agree with the rest: you're definitely "in," especially since it takes more to give it up than it does to keep it. :waytogo:

congrats. Hmmm anyone standing near you can claim they lost a Peace dollar. Do you get along with your in-laws?

My daughter in law is a sweetie... besides, once I get a cool coin clean and photographed it goes in a box and maybe I look at it two or three times a year. For me the finding it is the big thing.
