Not to sound like a whiner or wimp or anything, But doesnt that defeat the purpose of having an entry date deadline to begin with?/ it kinda muddies up the competion part, so now if ''Joe Blow'' finds a killer demo or a loaded site he can sign up and start tallying up points the next day? ..I can understand keeping the randon Draw /raffle portion open , But once that deadline of Aug 1 comes that should be it for the other part. I realize its all in the spirt of fun and stuff , But thats just my two cents .........

Deep Silver, I (just my opinion) understand your concern. However, since finding things of value is unpredictable at best by anyone, newbie or veteran, and the competion time frame is so long, this is really a marathon. A 3 or 5 day event would have tighter regulations. I am sure some entrants already have places in reserve to get a jump start next friday morning. Most people work, and won't see the top of their coil till sat. or sun. only to put it away till the following weekend. Over the 4 months things will average out for most.
We have members who only log in on occasion, and are not even aware this hunt is coming together. So if they are a week or two late, NBD. they lose hunting time. Some great prizes will be drawn at random for that very reason. Their heart will be in the hunt, but their time to hunt is limited. This should be more of a fun time then a cutthroat competion. The spirit of the hunt was to help support the site. It can be done this way or it can be done by burying the pages in ads, links, and popups...:no:...Gil
 
If some person new to the hobby jumps in with a el cheapo machine and sweeps this contest, I'll be more than happy to write up a commical story about it. :lol:
 
What about shipping costs?

When it's time to award the prizes, how are the shipping costs going to be handled? RelicHound shouldn't get stuck with them.

it shouldnt break the bank..the larger stuff if i can fit in a flat rate box will ship cheap the other stuff i can ship via UPS and if i pack it my self it shouldnt cost to much...but i dont ship alot of stuff so i dont know.
 
This contest will be fun to watch. I would have liked to enter, but I don't like hunting alone and I don't have anyone to hunt with anymore. Hopefully, as someone suggested, this will become an annual event and I will have a hunting buddy by the time the next contest rolls around. Good luck to everyone and thank you to those who have invested the time and energy to create this contest.

Countyworker, Do you mean you would'nt have a partner here, or you just don't like hunting alone? I say enter and wait for the next body to sign up. There will be late entries as some people only tune in monthly. The worse thing that could happen is you end up going it alone but you are still eligeble
for a random drawing prize. There are lots of prizes and too few entries. Do it! The next signee will be your partner. By the way, where have you been?

I lost my hunting partner to cancer on May 10th and I haven't felt like hunting since then. I don't enjoy hunting alone very much and living in one of the highest violent crime rate areas in the nation doesn't help.

I do visit the site nearly every day to keep up with everyone, I just haven't been posting much.

I wouldn't feel comfortable entering the contest and not hunting, just to be in the drawing for the prizes. This is just a thought, but I've been in the position of soliciting donated items for prizes for charity events in the past and if you think you might have another contest after this one, you may want to consider limiting the number of prizes for this contest and using some for the next one, in case you aren't as fortunate in receiving so many donated items again.

I will enjoy watching the contest and I will try to rustle up a hunting partner, so I can enter the next one. I think I could put up some points with pull tabs. :lol:
 
I'd like to sign up. I will pm tinky. I too have about 13 months of detecting. I would say geen, however, if you feel I am a vet, that is fine too.

I will have everyones individual team thread set up before tomorrow evening and will also post the control up before 10pm tomorrow night. if you have a team name send it to me in a PM and that will be the name of your thread to post your finds in

yuppers! carol needs a partner folks so jump in and fill that spot! also i posted everyones team threads today. if you want you can also include a story with your finds...treat it like the "finds/story" thread we already have. we will have the control item posted before 10pm central time since that is when i leave for work and probably wont be back online until tomorrow afternoon since ill be hunting most of the day...or until it gets to hot{95+ tomorrow heat index well over 100 with loads of humidity due to the storms we had early this morning}
