"Diggers" damage control

No publicity is good publicity for metal detectorist. Trust me a lot of these "found ring" stories etc. do nothing but put us in the archeologist sights. All parks here are closed to detecting because an archeologist seen article in the paper about a guy helping the police find a gun. The archeologist assumed the parks already had "no detecting" laws, however when he read the article he realized they did not, and took it upon himself to have them put in place. So thanks to an article no one can detect the parks. Had the story not been published we would still have thousands acres open to us. We need to stay out of the limelight. For those who think these guys are funny and entertaining, you probably won't be thinking that as more and more parks are closed, because trust me, these guys do make us look bad.

Our parks are closing. That's why I just sold my V3i. been kicked out of 3 parks already:no:

I think "Diggers" is going to wind up being the nail in the detecting coffin. I was at the beach. This lady is in a competition they were having at the beach. Supposedly partially sponsored by the surfer chick who lost her arm to a shark. Well she comes up to me as she was waiting to run. Asks me about detecting, what I find, etc. Then the "Diggers" BS comes into the conversation. She says she tried watching it on television. It's the only exposure she's had as far as metal detecting is concerned. She says she couldn't watch it because of how crazy they act. Breaking tree limbs, rolling around, etc.
So I tell her those two nimrods aren't metal detectorists. We have a code of ethics we follow. And how they are hunting places we aren't even allowed to hunt legally. Told her she should see the bashing those two nuts take on metal detecting forums. We wouldn't roll around and tear limbs off of trees in parks, etc. She said "That's good to know!" Somebody care to slap KG and Ringy for me NAT GEO:?: I got a hammer that will make you roll around:laughing:

It's BS like this that begins to tick me off. You have watched maybe 1 or two shows if any, or just pile on whats been posted from things early in season 1. You make it sound like they are sneaking into illegal places, smashing down trees and acting like lunatics every episode.

What you SHOULD have said is:

"Yes, those guys can act crazy - just keep in mind it's not only a show about metal detecting and history but also it's for fun. It's not how most of us act - depending if we find some of things they do! These are two guys that have a historian that goes with them and not only records the depth of every item found but also the GPS location and provides that information to the local historians. They also give every item they find to the land owner or to the local historical society. So the show isn't for everyone, just keep in mind their crazy antics when finding neat items is just for show."

And by the way, I keep hearing people talk about that they went into somewhere illegal to metal detect but I never found out which episode or where that was. Where was it? I've watched about every episode and from what I have seen they have gotten permission every time.

And also you might want to take a look at some of the stuff they have found before they even started the show.

You might want to watch the youtube video of KG hunting with a Garrett rep before he started acting like a dumass. I get approached all the time about the show beach hunting. Positive comments zero. Negative comments 100%

IMO, your made a very fair comment and position to take on the show, but perhaps that is because you are a "NORMAL" and "REASONABLE" person. Unfortunately, much of the masses are like lemmings who march on in support of what other people say without actually looking well into things for themselves.

:lol:I know that spitting apples episode ranks right up there with my neighbor across the street 9 months pregnant standing outside chain smoking:shock:

Don't you know that real "professional" detectorists are supposed to be serious all the time? There's not supposed to be any FUN in this hobby! Tsk tsk tsk.

<solemn voice>Hey look I found three large cents. Yay. </solemn voice>

The hobby is fun as it is, you can get excited about a find and have fun without the jumping around like a little league team after a homerun when you do find something or diving head first into a puddle, once again, a PUDDLE.. Is that what you do?? If soo then "tsk tsk tsk"

Maybe I do. I have a mean cartwheel BTW.

Different people enjoy the hobby in different ways.

omg! its a show and i watch and like it ......does that make me unprofessional?

metal detecting is fun!

if its not time to find a new hobby,,,,,,,,,,,,just saying!:p

Having fun is one thing but these guys rip stuff down, and tear stuff up. The property owners may not care for those specific sites, but I'm sure some people who see the show may assume we are all like that and not want us detecting their land. The real and only reason these guys have a show is because they act like idiots, anyone can clearly see that they can't dig plugs, and their finds, even before they started filming the TV series were not that impressive. I can name a dozen people off the top of my head from this forum who produce more and better finds then these bozos. How can this show do anything but hurt our hobby? Does anyone think park supervisors are going to watch this show and think "hey, I should let people like this detect our park", or archeologist will watch and think "hey, maybe I was wrong, metal detectorist are very professional". I've already seen petitions against them online. It's entertaining, no argument there, but in no way is it good for the hobby. I'm not trying to argue, this is just my opinion.

I watch them all and I think they are hilarious! Because of the exposure they got in Season 1 they are detecting amazing sites in Season 2. I would love to be one of those 2 clowns, having my own show and getting paid to detect forbidden places. Is that not a dream job gentlemen? (And ladies too!) How many of you are just a tad bit jealous of them? Cop, medical, and lawyer shows on TV are hugely unrealistic and they all get watched by people in those professions for the same reasons - ENTERTAINMENT. "Bear" Grylls (Man vs. Wild) to me is much more fabricated than Les Stroud (Survivorman), but guess who's got his own nice little line of outdoor accessories? Whenever I find a nice ring now I find myself taking a picture of it and sending it to my detecting buddy with the phrase..."I'VE GOT ROUNDNESS IN THE HOLE!"

Ditto.....makes me wonder about the sense of humor around here. Just for the record, I to got approached many times about the show....Positive comments 90%. Negative comments 10%

I got one of the biggest senses of humor on the forum. Just don't need to chop a tree down over finding a button. I wouldn't roll around like they do smashing stuff if I found the Atocha:lol:

The reason I started detecting last July was because I saw a episode of diggers and it got me interested so like a lot of people I bought a at pro. I really enjoy the show and I have never had one person mention any thing about it or I have never knocked on a door and get told are you gonna tear down my trees and act like a lunatic if you found a coin. I'm glad they have a show because over 150 silver coins lots of gold and silver rings and a 14k pocket watch 10 months later I would not have those finds or a great hobby I love to do so Ty kg and ringy:)

Can't see the small writing on Diggers. But the writing on the one with the wrestler says in the writing its all re enactments. Most people complain about a youtube video where someone didn't show digging a plug. But they watch Savage diggers all day long:lol:
