DigFellas is not a good one to watch

I watched both episodes last night and IMMEDIATELY, the younger guy's accent, along with his personal voice tone, drove me nuts!! The older one of the two seems like he just is along with the younger one for the ride too. Waders and no life jackets in that canoe was definitely no way to teach kids, and some adults, anything about safety first. They covered up their holes, but did it in a very non important and second thought way. There were other things I saw too that I didn't like and I guess my overall question is why do the shows presently on TV want to portray MDers as a bunch of goofball idiots? If I didn't know better, that's the impression I'd get from this show and the show "Diggers". Both sets of men act like goof balls to me with, and in between, any finds.

Well at least the DigFellas aren't running all over the place, doing cartwheels and climbing trees!

They pull targets that are actually stuck in the soil and its showing them cleaning up after themselves. They have strong accents but I'm from Minnesota and have been crapped on because of my accent. I'm giving the show two thumbs up.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! As Bill would say! Got somebody on my side (or someone to agree with me)! YES! :D

As for the accent -- it grows on you after awhile!

It was interesting. I think they need to emphasize the getting permission and filling holes more. Maybe some was public land, but it wasn't stated. Not sure why they documented the location of some finds, but not others, and what happened to the finds? Also, It was curious that, even though there were no headphones, the sounds didn't match the machine or the object many times. And, no pin pointers?

"Hoooowaaaad! Hey Hoooowaaaard! Have you found anything Hoooowaaaad? We left the oaaaaas in the caaaa Hoooowaaaad!" They had my 4-year old talking like a Red Sox fan before the episode was over. Very annoying. I will give them credit for finding sardine cans, beer cans, pieces of copper wire, etc. I saw them cover several holes (albeit very quickly). There was a message across the screen at the beginning that mentioned gaining permission from landowners. Besides the extremely annoying accent and non-stop jabbering of the younger guy, the downsides were the over-inflated price estimates and their attempt to tie everything to the show's theme (Blackbeard, Billy the Kid, etc.). Overall an OK show if you kept it on mute.

As for the sound not matching the machines -- only us avid detectorists will know that -- the average person who does NOT metal detect will NOT know that. To me that's irrelevant! Pinpointers (or the lack of) I rarely use one -- I do have a HF one but I dont like it and my Compadre does a pretty good job of pinpointing! But I will get a Garrett Pro Pointer someday! The places I go around home -- I don't really need one. And most of their finds were not very deep anyway and the dirt was not hard packed -- easy to dig and targets easy to find.

Yes finding the "junk" stuff and showing it or mentioning it is a PLUS for the show in my book because it gives a truer idea of how metal detecting really is -- it's not like Ringy and KG showing ONLY THE GOOD STUFF! Not every hole will be a good or great target! The Diggers show gives the novice or non-detectorist a false impression that good stuff is in EVERY hole!

I dont see me ever getting used to it ;)

I've watched their videos on you tube so I'm used to their voices and accent. It is kinda comical! :D At least they aren't using Ringy's & KG's lingo (juice, nectar, roundness in the hole).

Oh, I absolutely loved how the random piece of wood with a large nail in it was worth $200-$300!! Where can I buy one of these?

Make your own -- get a piece of driftwood and put a square nail or old ship nail and you can sell it!

I called it on another thread before the show even aired that people would find something wrong with it. Seems no matter how well a show is done, people in our hobby generally hate anything that publicizes our hobby. Everyone is afraid the next show is going to get the hobby banned.

I have heard the lamest reasons for hating this one:
1) accent is annoying. (tops the list. everyone has an annoying accent to someone. I'm from the upper Peninsula of Michigan and sound like a dang Candian don't ya know eh. :))
2) no headphones
3) waders in a boat are unsafe
4) they should be wearing life jackets
5) no use of pinpointers.... (What?)

They did mention permission was given at the end. They did mention covering holes, They did show some of the trash. These are the big problems everyone has with the others shows, and they were not present in dig fellas, so leave it to the people in our hobby to come up with new problems. No show will ever make most of you guys happy, so for those of us who enjoyed it, Kudos to you for watching TV as entertainment instead of trying to find things wrong with a show about our hobby. It was well done. The important things were addressed and I'm proud to say I loved it.

LOVED the show. Recorded it, and will watch it again. I'll put the whole season on DVD to watch for years to come. Well done show in my opinion.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! :D Well Said!

I think the show sucked. The only one worse out there is the Savage one. If I heard "HOWARD" one more time I was gonna shoot myself. He sounds like a nagging wife. Plus if he has been doing this that long, who does he use the standard mode on his AT Pro and not Pro mode? No propointers, $200-$300 value for a piece of wood with a nail in it. More bad swinging technique. I understand accents, but he was annoying period. Ive seen their youtube videos too and don't care for them either. These guys are a joke. The only one worth semi-watching is Diggers...

my sentiments exactly Sean , well said.

it's definitely the best one done for the big screen. The value graphics were added by editors and had nothing to do with them. If you want real world detecting watch youtube, we all do. But for TV this is about as good as it can get without getting cancelled. diggers is not bad, but the garrett overload is a bit annoying seeing them try to dig relic holes with a garrett digger.

Nice to see some variety of detectors, history lessons, decent finds, and a little fun. I think in general detectorist are quiet introverted people so naturally anything for show is bound to aggravate. That and lots of grumpy old men.

You might have missed it but one of them on the digfellas show was swinging a Garrett At-Pro....

I thought the show was OK........:D

Ok so tried watch this show tonight but these guys are annoying and the show is horrible.

1)They don't even wear headphones.

They did it on purpose. There is less chance if the production company over laying sounds by not wearing headphones.

2)They make it look like they are just taking off and entering property without caring who owns it. We don't do that guys.

Look at the places that they detected... Do you really think that anyone on the planet would think that they didn't have permission to be there? C'mon... Use your brain will ya? This statement seems to only be to attempt to create controversy.

3)Ok so in the canoe they had waders on(dangerous incase it tips over) and they didn't have life jackets on or in the canoe. That dangerous and breaking the law.

Seriously? This is the best critique you can come up with? With all the crew that is there do you really think they would have ever been in any kind of danger? Besides... on private property you don't need life jackets so no law was broken in any way... Just another silly attempt at creating controversy.

4)Overall they are annoying and I cannot stand the younger guy. Older guy isn't so bad I guess

You are entitled to your opinion, but I respectfully disagree. They are both nice guys and I enjoy watching their videos.

This show is much better than the other shows out there on detecting. That you can't deny.

A few things now...

You obviously haven't hunted with Bill and Howard.. They get happy over all of their finds. They do a lot of research about the locations so when they find something, they have more of a connection with the finds and the people that lost them.

I agree on the prices of things... That just needs to go away. Most of us detect for the love of the hobby and the history behind the finds. We don't care about the value of things... Bill and Howard are the same... They hunt for the history of the finds... It's the production company that puts the pricing in.

As for the moving on too fast... Do you really think that they didn't hunt places for hours and hours? The production company isn't going to show you them hunting a place for 3 hours. They will show the most interesting stuff. The one thing that I thought was pretty good was that they showed a lot of trash as well, not JUST the "good" stuff.

I like it. It's much better than all of the other shows out there by far and I hope it sticks around..

Just my .02

As for Bill's accent... I dunno wacha talkin bout. He sounds likea typical New Englanda ta me.

I'm pretty sure even on public waters you don't have to wear a life jacket, you just have to have one for each person in the boat or in this case canoe..
