Jennings, mine probe in picture ain’t that good as should be. But for me it’s okay I use probe to find none-metal objects (like soldiers, bottles, ect.) or in places where soil is polluted with small metal objects. For me it’s too often happens that the soil is polluted. Probe helps to see if the soil was moved. Yes, there is a problem when you hit something and you can’t decide, dig or not to dig. But it comes with experience. After some time you feel the ground, the objects you hit. It’s hard to explain. Just need to try. Because rock, wood, metal have specific sound, moment when you hit it with you’r probe.
Talking about fluted cases, I am not sure why it is done. Cases were with bullet. No powder and shoted.
