Count me in and if there is anything I can do to help please let me know.

still interested too

Still interested, flexible on dates, availability to be determined...

Like Benny I am up towards the NH border as opposed to the CT border.

The 80 miles and twenty bucks ideas work for me - maybe us North County
folks can meetup and carpool.... and the hold harmless liability waiver is a great idea too.

Just providing an idea. I'm in Taunton Ma. How about the Taunton State Hospital built in 1854 and still standing today?
The mayor here is a huge history buff (actually he was the local historian prior to becoming mayor).
Taunton could be a good midway point between CT and western Mass.
It's state propery and off limits to the public but I think if a group were to MD it, I would imagine the mayor would be thrilled and even like to attend the event and probably have pull in getting such permission granted.
I don't imagine it's ever been hunted before either.
Here is a link showing before and now photos.

Also here is a photo showing a baseball game being played on the grounds in 1900 (courtesy of a Pictorial History book I have that was put together by the mayor several years ago).

I'll PM you, sounds like a good idea, actually a really good one if you can convince the Mayor..

Thanks!
Bruce

PM'd you back. If more people are in agreement and a more specific timeline is set, then I'll send him a letter or email. He is very much into the history here so I'd like to think he'd have the clout to get approval for such a thing. He even used to have a local cable show every week for a few years called Old Tyme Taunton where he discussed the history here.
Heck, maybe we could do this AND an old farm somewhere. More than one group hunt wouldn't be a bad idea either

Take it another step too..... "Maybe" he could arrange for a video crew from the cable station to video it all and put a local history program together.... I think the state would be more inclinded to approve the taping of a history program... just a new angle thought....

I was thinking that too but since he's been the Mayor for about 3 years now he no longer does the show but is still very much involved in the city's History as far as co-writing and supplying most of the old photos for the pictorial books. I was still thinking it might still be good publicity in the local newspaper.
Think we'd have to offer to sign some kind of waiver to be on that property though not holding the state or city responsible for anything?

Sounds like something I'll be interested in if i have that weekend off from work(Might be able to work around it)? Could bring along my brother the "Ground Hog" if he can get permission and maybe the "Bugguy" might be interested as well?. Any water hunting spots nearby??/we can check them out hooka diving style too if you have a wetsuit?

It would be a real feather in his hat if one of us were to find something historically significant to the area that he could "present" to his local historical commission.....just look at the good publiciity (for him and for us). Just a thought. Steve

I agree with you 100%. I'm still in the process of figuring the best way to present a letter to him to ask permission.
Only have one shot at this and want the letter to be perfect.
I'll let you all know once I've sent it off. Planning no later than mid next week.

I say go for it. If I can help with the letter or anything else please let me know. Call me if you want to talk about it.
