Breaking Beach News !

I’m not sure if it’s a matter of being afraid. To me it’s just being responsible. I wouldn’t want to infect anyone because I was too cavalier about being safe for myself, family and others.

I'm with you BH on being responsible. That's all the government is asking for. No big deal. But the "violation of my rights" stuff...well...if you don't like it , just get out of this beautiful country and go live somewhere else. Don't complain. Just get out if you think it's that bad. We don't want you. We don't need you.

Am I fearful ? Yes I am , I'm high risk. Will it stop me from living ? Hell no. That's why up until about a week ago , I been detecting about twice a week. But it's the OTHERS that are not being responsible. So I will be changing my tactics a bit such as being a nightstalker and hunting a few target specific sites where there just aren't going to be alot of people around. If people truly don't care about others , deep down , they aren't going to care about themselves or family members.
Stay safe my friends.

In a way I'm "lucky" that there aren't any "good" beaches near me. The few that ARE around (small lakes) are closed and have been for quite awhile. I've been sticking to dirt fishing, and have had good luck with clad, but not with any other goodies, but at least I'm getting out and spending time in the nice weather and able to be out with my hunting partner (keeping safe of course, his wife drives him and drops him off and we keep far apart, unless he finds something I need to identify for him, in which case the mask goes on and the sanitizer is ready for deployment)

I was looking forward to a vacation with the family this summer in NC or FL or some such, but that's not going to happen now, and even if it did, there wouldn't be a lot of newer drops to find.

Personally, I don't like that the beaches have been closed, but I see the necessity. If everyone were to keep an appropriate social distance, then I don't think that it would have been necessary to close the beaches or other venues. Unfortunately, that's not the case as far too many people think it "can't happen to them", especially the "youngsters". If the only people to get it were those that ignored common sense, then I wouldn't care, but they'll bring it home to their parents that ARE trying to be safe, and then those parents will go buy terlet paper and touch the handle on the cooler holding the milk, and then someone else will go grab milk for themselves, and potentially bring it home to THEIR family.

I'm just glad the national media posted fake news about our local beaches with fake crowd pics:lol: Plenty of room. Stay home if you feel compromised. Me? I am happy to go look for bottle caps next week. You ever wonder why they posted the fake news about Corona virus thriving in the ocean and you could inhale it from the surf? So you stay away from the beach;) And i am a germaphobe who shops at 4 AM to avoid people:shock:

Stepping on the Constitution for "public safety" is a big deal. Afraid to get infected? Sit at home until this blows over is a year or so. Me, I'm going to go out every day and live my life and take full advantage of my constitutional rights.

I agree FBT. We do have rights. But I don't think they are asking for much during these unusual times we've never gone through before. I would like to see more people using common sense and being safe , that's all. And they aren't doing it. See the news with all the protesters in HB ? No masks , no distancing. Oh well , it is there right. I hope you are getting out and doing some detecting. For us out here , parking seems to be harder to find !

Glad to see your able to get out with a buddy , be safe and detect. Looks like most vacations are out for alot of people. I hope they come up with a vaccine but it could be from a few months to a few years. I think the economy will take longer. Just wish we all didn't have to all go through this and we could all get back to normal , whatever that is !
Take care my friend..

This virus doesn't care if you are healthy and fit... my neighbors friend lost his son who was 30 years old and into healthy living and being physically fit and was a trainer who owned his own fitness club... also my neighbor was taken out in a body bag last week... she was fit and younger 48 tops..

Those wwho want to live their lives as they see fit hopefully will stay healthy in the mean time I have no issues with the mitigation we are living under here in Connecticut where I am in Fairfield county is a hot bed of the virus because we are so close to NYC...

I'm afraid that these states that relax their mitigation are going to pay a price and then need to enforce even stricter rules... I rather have a few rights infringed upon if it helps slow this killer down...

X2!

Another thing I've noticed the last week here in So.Cal is what I believe to be camera censorship. Some of the beach cams I use are not available or have limitations in some way. Could be from heavy traffic. Idk. Anyone else having issues at their beaches ?

I got the beach this morning and found more beach then people and the people and one dog had a masks on and people have others alot of space.

Still getting used to the Nox 600 so I only found 2 pennies.

I agree...
Unfortunately our rights seem to end at the front door. Beyond that people are not being very smart about this.

Frankly, I'm amazed at what I am reading in this thread.

1. There will be NO VACCINE for this. In the history of medicine there has never been a successful vaccine for a CoronaVirus. MERS and SARS, both Respiratory Corona Viruses, have NO vaccine. The regular flu virus, yes, each year there is a flu shot available based on what the scientists guess will be the upcoming strain. So for those of you waiting on some sort of cure, it is NOT going to happen.

2. If you back out the deaths from co-morbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and COPD type issues, age and environment (nursing homes and hospitals) you are LESS LIKELY to die from the CoronaVirus than to be killed in a car crash this year. Yes, some younger people (thankfully no children) are killed by this virus, but that is true of the regular flu every year, and definitely true in car accidents. Should we prohibit driving because of the deaths that come about? My goodness... almost 3 MILLION AMERICANS die each year... 650,000 from heart disease, 600,000 from cancer. Heck, medical mistakes and infections AT HOSPITALS account for well over 100,000 deaths each year.

3. Over 50% of those who get covid-19 have NO symptoms, in other words, it has NO EFFECT on their health. For the vast majority of the rest of us, it may give the sniffles, a fever or cough, but we recover. What we need to do is protect the "at risk" groups of Americans, and really control who comes into contact with that group, while freeing up the rest of us to return to normal life. We are creating a State of Fear in this country where even a simple handshake is going to be looked at with disgust. Heaven forbid giving a friend a hug in public!

4. Metal detecting, getting out and enjoying the beautiful parks, hunting curb strips and yards is a perfect hobby, even if you are afraid of the virus. In the current social climate, people WILL AVOID YOU! :yes:The virus does NOT like sunshine, UV light kills it rapidly.

5. Without herd immunity, the CoronaVirus WILL BE BACK in the fall, and perhaps for some years to come. Do you want to see small business destroyed, our city, county and state government tax base destroyed by unemployment and bankruptcies (and the pensions and benefits generated therein). Do you want fear created simply by being around another person to be the prevailing social custom?

I can't help but think of a Ben Franklin saying... "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Interesting take there LTS. Hope your not high risk like me. I think your a dirt/park hunter no ? Your hunting doesn't even compare. How many areas do you hunt with 1000s milling around every turn ? I welcome you to So.Cal and hope they aren't coughing and hacking flem on you. Walking 3' past you with no mask. Not being the least bit responsible. You will love it here !

Hi KOB. Yes, I am a dirt hunter, sad to say very few touristy fresh water beaches in Montana! And yes, I am fortunate to live in a county (50,000 residents) with no Covid deaths and no Covid cases, and in a state with only 16 total Covid deaths in a population of 1 Million people.

I guess to distill my points down, since there will be no vaccine, no cure, just treatment, for this and any other coronaviruses or respiratory colds coming down the line, we as a country need to get to that herd immunity level in our Healthy population, so that the virus will die out because of lack of new people to infect. At that point, even high risk folks will be safe. By locking businesses, beaches, sports, and outdoor activities down, we are just delaying and dragging out this situation, guaranteeing that this virus will be around much longer than need be. Right now we are denying the right of family and friends from even visiting their dying loved ones in hospitals, due to the scare of this virus. That is inhumane in my opinion. Imagine not being able to see your dying child, spouse, parent or grandparent due to the lockdown.

This situation reminds of the stories I hear of schools of say, 600 students, where ONE student has a peanut allergy, so the school outlaws PBJ sammies for ALL the children, rather than give the one student a safe place to eat lunch without restricting the food choices for the other 599. Same situation here, we need to provide safe and protected space for the elderly, medically compromised, and nursing home folks, while letting the huge percentage of Americans who have already had the virus or will get the virus with no or little effects get on with normal life.

I hit the beach this morning and there was more beach then people but if it was the other way around I would have just left and not MD there. BTW the restrooms where closed.

Stay healthy out there. We all don't see eye to eye on everything here and as long as it's respectful it can be good because that means we all learn something.

There are some places in this country where the virus just isn't much of a threat. I get that. I hope those people can have a sense of normal lives. More power to them.

But as Craig and a few other posters have mentioned some of us are in the bullseye. Those of us near large cities have no choice but to safeguard ourselves. I am three counties from Philly. The closer you get to to the city the more of a nightmare it becomes. Philly.... Jersey......NYC....all horrible. There is no way normal life returns to that epicenter anytime soon. These states like Georgia with majaor cities like Atlanta? In two weeks we will know.

Beach openings? I don't even see that being on the list of things worth worrying about by the governors of the states around me. Good luck to those less populated areas. But there is no way that your situation compares to the hard hit areas. And unfortunately those hard areas will drag the economy into the toilet and keep it there.

I want to be thoughtful, considerate, and respectful in my response here. Unless herd immunity is reached and the CoronaVirus has no way to spread, we will ALL GET THIS VIRUS. There is no cure, there will be no successful vaccine. All the "social distancing" in the world does nothing but to drag out the effects of the lockdown and prevent immunity. Think of measles, rubella, smallpox, tetanus, rabies etc. So many Americans have been vaccinated that these formerly killer diseases are a non issue, as we have herd immunity.

To give a bit of history, I did worry when the news first came out of Wuhan. I agreed with the social distancing and was in favor of the 15 day business shutdown so as to "flatten the curve" of infections so that our hospitals would not be overwhelmed. We were told up to 2 MILLION Americans would die from this. But as the facts changed, our nation's policy did not. The goal posts were moved from "flattening the curve" to "no one gets the virus." The death projections went from 2 Million to 1 Million to 200,000 to 100,000 to now about 65,000. The shutdown for "no one gets the virus" has gone from 15 days, to 30 days, to 60 days, now to MONTHS.

Again, you are more likely to die in a car crash this year than die from the CoronaVirus, excluding the very elderly and the medically compromised. Those folks should be protected, and immunity built up in the general populace so that those at risk will be completely safe. The media has created a true State of Fear in our population.
