Big Coils do it again

And I was working all day....dammit! nice haul AGAIN guys! Looks like Trapper got the bulk of the silver, big surprise there... Those 17" coils are just coin gobbling monsters!
Saw you called Trapper,I'll give you a shout this week(hopefully). Hard to hear the phone when you're on a mower...

Great finds! Thought about getting a 15" coil for my 705, but for now I run it hot with sensitivity. I have to adjust it now and then, but Ive hit clad dimes on a sod overlayed football field at 7 to 9". The drawback is the musical chorus around trashy areas with the 10.5" DD I have which Im sure is unpleasant with the 17" coils.

Most of the coins were at 6" - 7" with a few at 8 and 9.

I think when you start getting 7" or deeper a smaller coil is not going
to produce as confident of a signal.

Take the Barber dime for example at 7" that I got with my Etrac and the 13" Ultimate:
The signal was there and for me, since I know my machine, it was definitely one of those
signals that made me say, "this might be a good coin" but it wasn't the same signal I got
with the Merc at 5 1/2 - 6" where I almost knew it was a silver. BAM!!
loud and clear and the numbers weren't jumping too much.

The 17" coil makes those 7,8,9 and even 10" coins sound off and read like they were at 6"

So most everyone with other machines will just pass those signals up because they are
just too iffy or nonexistent.

.
Appreciate the thoughts!

As for after market coils for any machine and especially the 705 (I have ran the 15 on mine when I owned on) have to run the sensitivity down, they are just HOT coils. The 17 in auto or even manual does not produce (at least for me) no real excessive noise and even in heavy trash. I cant or wont hunt a super heavy trashy area with it but this park in areas is pretty trashy and I did not have much of an issue. Best coil for the 3030, hands down.

Jack, you killed it again today!

It sure is amazing that the old Park continues to give it up.
Since I only found one Merc, I did not even take a picture:no:

Had a fantastic time with everybody, even the two girlswingers who showed up:lol:

Hope to see everybody at the meeting Tuesday.

Matt, I had great time hunting with you. Just want to say that all the joy was not in the finds (easy for me to say) but in the experience of the shared time. Thank you for it. Jack

Great haul,big congrats!!
Thank you Wood for the reply. it was a great time hunting with all these guys.
Fantastic finds bud!! I loved my 17" coil! It's all I used at my girls school
Appreciate the comments Vic. That girls school was a great adventure. Wish we had a location like that.
Nice finds by all. Grats on the multiple silvers at the hunted out park ;)
Thank you Joe. It was a great time and experience for us all.
You guys did great congrats jack on a wonderful few outings with some friendly forum members!
Jeff my time has been very limited this year but it has been very productive. This hunt was only my 19th of the year. (Been skunked 3 times) Best part is the majority of the hunts Ive gotten to share with some very quality people and that has been the true treasures of the year. Jack

Jack is back! Great hunt you guys . I love it when you guys put your coils to the ground together and dig out the ones that the old timmers missed . Few and far between. Each one is becoming very special . There out there , but when you heavy hitters show up and post you make it look easy.
I'm in a slump since I found a 200 dollar pair of Oaklys and just recently tried to find the owner as karma has bitten me in the butt the last few times out on my best dirt :( Thaught I'd get to keep them. But I can't take another hunt without silver .

Tommy I don't think anybody in the group had the issues you brought up. This park has areas of heavy trash but not that it stopped anybody from their signals.
You guys killed it. Congrats on your best day of the year, wow what a day!
Jason it was a great time. Weather was decent and the park was full of people enjoying life. Things were really clicking for me. Just hope I can continue to squeeze in a little more time in the coming weeks. Jack (Trapper)

thanx for taking us along for the turf-hunt , with the pix and narration. Good read.

Question for y'all: What is the deepest you got coins at, using the CTX with 17" coil combo ? And for sake of question, assume this is the depth at which you were still retaining a fair idea of TID ? Ie.: not chasing insane whispers that could turn out to be nails or whatever. Such that you could still decide high versus low conductor, and so forth.
