Looking at 2011 Blue Book ......

1861 - 2,976,453 minted.
Starting at $ VF-20 is $1150 ! It really jumps at MS 60 - $2500 and MS63 is $7500 ! PF63 is $50,000 ! I guess the last one would be un-circulated.
Stunning find !

Are ya sure those are $20 gold prices and not $10? According to this site, fair market value for an 1861 G4 is $2040 and a VF-20 says $2330.

All the ones on ebay seem to be over $2000 as well. Unless I'm not understanding something?

Am I missing something or is it worth less than what I was thinking?

that's freakin amazing! wonder what was in that area prior? have you tried to research what was on this land before the house was built? congrats man!

Utterly amazing and the most fantastic land find I've seen since I joined the forum. I'd park a trailer and hunt that spot for 6 months straight:lol:...That had to be a depression era cache that the dozer spread around, judging from the dates and condition of the silvers. Congratulations on a lifetime achievement with that beautiful Double Eagle!

Holy cow.

How's about detecting it hard untill all signals are gone, then rent a small dozer like a bobcat and skim 6 inches or so off the top. Then repeat.

Congrats on a find of a lifetime (maybe), thats the kind of find that keeps us at it when we've been digging beer tabs and crusty memorials for hours. Absolutely awesome...WTG!!!

The numbers stated are pretty accurate. The 2011 redbook has it for the same numbers basically. And that is for a $20 gold coin. It is one of the more common dates if there is such a thing with a double eagle. Many gold coins were melted by the government as well. That is most likely why their values are at least 4x that of melt value. This doesn't take away from how awesome of a find it is though....

great day

congratulations on a super spot and finds. Please go over this spot numerous times you will still find good stuff. man that is a dream to find that much good coins. how heavy is the gold coin? CB

Oh my freekin' word... I don't even know what to say. :wow::wow::wow:

Never heard of anyone digging a $20 gold, that just doesn't happen. I think you may have broken several laws of physics... Murphy's law too. even I need to make sure I'm not dreaming.

I need to go hunting either right now, or as soon as I wake up.
