I for one am glad you took the right steps. But I would still forward that email to the cyber crimes unit in your area. All IP addresses are traceable.

I had been away during the winter and I missed everything, from reading all of the posts, he seemed a bit intriguing.

Mike

You did miss it.
Over the last few months it was like a train wreck in slow motion.
You could just feel the hackles on members necks rising with every weird thread.
To me, comical, to others, not so much.
He admitted he got rid of his detector months ago but still used this forum to sell his coins and that really riled up some dander around here.
The fact that he whined and complained about almost anything and everything didn't help.
I mean really...we already have our lovable Bonesquat for that stuff!

Too funny...Thanks for the update. Sorry I was away.

Mike

I would say look up his threads, but not only was he banned, he seems to have been exorcised from the entire forum...weird threads, replies and all.
Unless you want to read some from 2009, for some reason they are still around.

Not to worry.
Here is another weirdo you missed.
He came, he posted, and he was gone in a day or two.
Most here still don't know what was up with this guy.

Start at 12-24 bottom of this page and read "The story of Edd"...
http://metaldetectingforum.com/search.php?searchid=4647122&pp=25&page=2

What is not posted is some strange and hostile PM's he sent to several members which is what really got him banned.

He must of had a bad week, 9 posts and banned friday at treasurequest also lol, I see he used info he got here to share over there for his informed opinion

Carol and Vlad made a backup forum in case Defecto's threats were implemented.

Looks like all this guy did was simply make the forum more fortified. A backup is a necessity. A backup site is a step beyond. Good work guys.

You should send him a box of candies for furthering the advances and stability of the site.

Wonderful work of justice! Situation was handled well and in the most effective and efficient manner possible!

I can not help but wonder about the threat placed upon our forum. I'm hoping it is an idle one, but we know not! Well actually we do, considering that it's now the 26th. Curious that this was mentioned however, as Anonymous's "operation blackout" is supposed to be initiated on March 31.

Anyway, thank you for the share! I'm glad to have read the goings on and how well the issue has been dealt with.

Thank you!!

Hopefully every one, but we have no clue how many he was on. The way he talked they ranged from fountain pen forums to dust forums.

The email was from him... just like the emails he sent that were supposedly from other members asking us to ban them as well because they didn't want to be part of our forum if Detecto wasn't a part of it... all it did was push him further away... he is his own worst enemy...

I could show you what he said about me and others but what is the sense he is banned for life from this site....if we have to continue to vett each new member to make sure he stays off we will do it. we have been catching a few sneaky spammers that way as well..

I would hate to run into this guy while metal detecting , hopefully those who live near or around him don't and great job mods thanks for sharing.

little chance of that, he has no detector, I think he is going to be spending his money at the ACME explosives company instead of buying one

Vlad, Carol and all the moderators here. A huge thank you from me!

I am a moderator on a bbq forum and holy cow it eats up a lot of your life just doing the simple things. Let alone when you have to deal with a person of that caliber!

Like Anoymous would take this website down over some *takenout to keep rated G for Great metal detecting forum* 13 year old who thinks the internet is his playground.

Seems he's not alone in his desire to disrupt the internet, and looks like the attack is not only for this site.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17472447

Those type of attacks can be aimed at specific targets... IE if someone had the resources to do a DOS attack to this site, they could, and it would effect nothing else but this site.

The article you shared is just showing what "could" happen if such an attack was aimed at one of the Internets main hubs... and well, that would just suck for everyone ;)
