Are you guys nerds?

I get called a nerd sometimes b/c of my work (computer service), but never for detecting. Homeless guy - Yes.

So, I am anxiously awaiting my first ever MD, which I received yesterday, and my wife is sparing no opportunity to make fun of me.

She told me I need to buy some short shorts, tube socks, black shoes, some manner of plaid fanny pack and some other stuff. I think she is stereotyping here.

But it begs the question, are you guys nerds or what? How do I counter this constant barrage of negativity from my much better half?

Its like I tell one of my coworkers when he starts in about how nerdy I am. I say heck yeah I am! I will take that label if it keeps others from finding my goodies!

The older you get, the higher the belt line, too!

Personally, I think I'm a pretty cool guy and far from a nerd. I have skydived and actaully competed in World Competition in my younger days. Today I shoot Hand guns and Rifles on the weekends as well as Competative archery.

With 22.5 years of the United States Marine Corps behind me most of my friends think I am a very interesting individual with diverse interests and would consider me far from a nerd. Because of me, two of my friends are getting detectors themselves based on my stories of my finds over the years.

But if the truth be known, and I never did any of the things I have in my past or present, I could give a tinkers damn what people might think or say about me. Most that do know me wouldn't say it within earshot or arms reach of me.

Do your own thing, enjoy what you are doing, and let people talk.

I'm probably considered a nerd.

I dont LOOK the part but... I'm in college now getting my Computer Engineering degree. And I enjoy History, plus plenty of video games. ;)

I'll betcha I'm one of the most UN-nerds here

I own a small junkyard, hunt, fish, and I HATE to be indoors!

plus I was quite the player with the ladies in my younger days, and I try out my crazy skills from time to time (much to the horror of my wife of 6 years)

my wife is always a little bit concerned when I'm detecting at the beach, as I'm a very good looking guy & say "hey baby" to any fine young lady that might cross my path

My parents always say "Beep Beep Beep Geek Geek Geek" when Im getting ready to go Metal Detecting.

Now that's what I'm talking about.

Tell her that if that's how she sees you, that's how you're going to dress the next time you take her out.

I feel sorry for people that don't have a hobie. My wife rolls her eyes sometimes but likes when i find the old little botles and figurines.
I'm also a cber and get the "breaker breaker goodbuddy back door" from people. I tell them to touch my antenna. Good thing they don't because I would light there hand on fire

You should look up my friend Gurnie on here. That is his name and his screen name. He is big into the cb radio thing as well.

I don't look nerdy, but damn right I'm nerdy and proud of it. Some of my friends call me nerd, I say "damn right" I guess they want to pull my chain, but are disappointed that I admit my nerdiness, and embrace it.

I'm 45 years old, been there done that, married with a family, stuck in my own ways and don't care if people view me as a nerd.

I am a nerd, and I am not afraid to admit it.

There are worse things I could be.

Detector Nerds of the world need to Unite.

About 20 some odd years ago when I still owned my Compass X-80 Challenger I was hunting a beach at Rockaway, NY. There was blanket with a guy and his family next to ours. This guys wife would have caused me to commit murder the first hour of being locked in a room with her. The guy should have been put up for Sainthood.

Anyway, they packed up and left the beach, no big deal right? A few minutes later this guy shows back up and comes up to me and asks, “Can that thing really find things under the sand”? I said sure it can, why do you ask. He told me he may have dropped his keys by where his blanket was and he couldn’t find them. I could only imagine what torment and torture this guy was suffering under the brow beating of his wife.

Well, I found the keys right away with no problem at all. The guy offered me $20.00 bucks for finding the keys. I told him to keep it, he may need it for a lawyer some day. Before he left, he told me that when he first saw me swinging the detector with my earphones on and bending over every so often to pick something up he thought I was an idiot and silly. He didn’t actually refer to me as a geek or nerd, but I guess he meant he put me in that category. I asked him what he thought now. He just looked at me and said he was a believer and apologized for prejudging me.

I guess I could be considered a nerd by those reality TV show watching types...

I like to read, explore, metal detect (of course), I assemble my own fire arms and plan to start competition tactical shooting someday... I built an 8TB NAS server this weekend runnin ZFS raidz1 (~raid5).

I look at it like this... People only call you a nerd when your knowledge exceeds theres to a level that they are embaressed to admit and lash out with labels. :D

Like to camp, hunt, fish, go 4x4 off-roading......Spend 50% of my time on the computer researching subjects on science and engineering and have a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry.....Proud to say I'm a nerd. Knowledge is power, no matter what your hobbies/interests are.

Ask your wife if she wants you to wear tube socks to bed! ;)
