Anyone Geocaching?

HI! I JUST SIGNED UP TO THIS WEB SIGHT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT METAL DETECTORS, BUT I HAVE BEEN GEOCACHING FOR SOME TIME. IT IS REALLY A LOT OF FUN AND SHOULD TIE IN WITH MD. IF YOU GO TO E-BAY YOU CAN FIND A GPS PRETTY CHEAP. I USE A GARMIN E-TRAX. IT'S PROBABLY AS GOOD AS MOST REASONABLY PRICED GPS'S. I TRIED MAGELLAN BUT HAD BAD SERVICE EXPERIENCES WITH THEM. GOOD LUCK TUBG

Hi tubg, welcome to the forum. I'd like to hear your favorite geocaching story.

well, we went and found another one today, this one took a little to get to, we had to hike up an old road to an old shale pit on top of a mound and down the ridge to the old fire tower, about 2/3 of a mile one way

you could almost drive right to it but the road up there is pretty torn up, its a pretty popular event for guys to try to climb up there in their big four wheel drive trucks and they keep the road pretty demolished, which means you have to walk...

the tower is gone but the base is still there and they had it hid in the base, it only took a few seconds for the kids to find it, I've been up there and to the old tower many times so I knew exactly where it was

I took the camera and was going to take some pictures but I forgot it in the van...

I have a new camera and will start taking pics as soon as I get out again.i bought a new truck and have to break it in b4 I go four wheeling. Cladius.

Hi everyone! I/We started caching this spring. Here is a link to our profile http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=2044f31f-dd47-4358-8f1c-05fa242c563d

When we go on vacation, we punch in the zipcode to see if we can find any caches there. :!:I use an Etrex Legend C & a Palm Zire 71. The palm is for paperless caching. We use a combination of Cachmate & GSAK as our tracking & paperless caching programs. We can save 500 cache pages on the palm & load 500 sets of waypoints into our gps. we leave them both in our car, so we can cache whenever we are driving somewhere.
All I need to do now is get that ACE 250 so I can start detecting! - Dave

Hello All

I am new here. I started geocaching about two years ago and it is great fun and the kids love it to. I have started detecting about a year ago and it is so much fun I just bought a Explore II.

Welcome to the forum gunrunner11070, I can't wait to hear some of your favorite stories.

YES. It is great fun.
For those looking to start this is a hint. Start out by Buying a Garmin eTrex. It is very easy to learn, and is inexpensive. It is about $100.00 and will get you to the Caches just the same as the expensive ones. The sales man advised me the more expensive ones just have a lot more trinklets and bells and will not get you any closer to the cache ans the cheeper ones do.
If you deside you ane not as interested in it as you thought you have very little money envolved.
BUT, You will love it. It is an outstanding bit of fun and keeps you out of the stores.

hunts in the woods! HH to all

I just finished reading this thread all the way through, and must say I'm intrigued! By the way Tsmola, I LOVED your hidden clue for coordinates to your cache. Took me a few minutes to "see" them. Great job!

I think I'll be signing up and giving it a try. I have hundreds of duplicate wheat pennies in flips in my collection, I'll leave those as trade items.

Thanks to everyone for getting me interested in a new hobby, although my wife isn't so happy, lol!

Hi Treasurekidd

Once your wife tries it she may love it. We use our Motorcycles to Geo-cache. My wife loves it and always ask when we are going again. Make sure you get her to help in the hunt.

We use our motorcycle to geocache too. That's why I was trying to find a way to carry the detector on the bike.

All we came up with was buying a Tesoro Cibola, because it breaks down in our backpack.

But oh dear... winter is here. :(

my motorcycle would divorce me if I used it for geocaching...

I bought a new 4x4 truck to add to my geo/md/hunt/fish addictions. As soon as deer season ends I'll be out with the dogs.

Found another geocache while detecting today. We went to Mass to get some dirt digging in and our friends took us to a spot with an old cellar hole. I was detecting around it, and then went down inside it, stumbled, and as I caught myself, I spotted an ammo can under a rock. Here's some pics. What fun! :D
