A New Police Encounter for Me!

Got to strike when the jokes still hot

I think the Michigan police need to move into the 21st century.

LOL .... LOL ...

says the one who has state troopers like this:

I do want a pair of those boots though !

I have a friend who was dating a lady who’s grandpa owned quite a few old vehicles out in the Nevada desert. One of them was a 1970s Dodge Ram truck that used to belong to an Indian reservations police force. Only indication of this was the emblem in the front doors. Her grandpa ended up selling this truck to my friend. One day he went shopping and when he came out the CHP was outside parked near his truck waiting for him. They ordered him to remove the decals. I’m still not sure if that was legal being that I have seen classic police cars at car shows that still had the emblems and light bar.

I was thinking the same thing.

On the one hand, the truck looks a lot like a law enforcement vehicle. On the other hand, when was the last time you saw a law enforcement vehicle with that type of emergency light?

What kind of side arms are they carrying, 38 special revolvers? And I bet their radios use 9V batteries, too.

I’m relatively young, and up until this post had never seen one before 😂.

Michigan State Police all have the bubble gum light. The only difference between the old ones and the new ones is there is no revolving light on the inside. They are all flashing LED's.

Yes very distinctive and they stand out just like my truck stands out. Their side arms are Glocks I don't like them. I still have S&W semi auto's and Springfields. I also have a S&W 357 mag 8 shot.

Anyway. I will keep the truck and the light. I am not breaking Michigan law.

says the one who has state troopers like this:

Hey, they won "best dressed state trooper" in the country many years ago! They were even on David Letterman! Not sure why their pants are so baggy, though.

This happened today and that is why the post today. I enjoy standing out and grabbing attention and that is why the truck. A marketing gimmick. I am well liked where I live and for what I do and I have over 4 thousand followers on Facebook.

A LOT know of my encounters with LEO and I have posted many of my adventures on here. I have received 6 citations for metal detecting and diving and I have won every one of them. I also have had well over 20 encounters with LEO and have had some interesting conversations. Some agree with me others do not. NOT my problem.

This hobby brings me a lot of fun and a lot of adventure and I love and enjoy it.

Some feel I should bow down to any officer that confronts me. BUT everyone that knows me on here knows that will never happen. I will govern myself the way I feel is best for me. If anyone doesn't like it, move on to the next post.

Psychology -- selfishness, involving a sense of entitlement, a lack of empathy, and a need for admiration, as characterizing a personality type

Whatever you are doing, looks like you've wasted the time of a lot of LEOs, congratulations. No one said you should bow down to anyone.

I support law enforcement, and do appreciate your prior service. I'm glad that I, and hopefully anyone I know, never had to deal with you in that role. In my opinion you clearly have at least one personality trait that disables you from working effectively with the public.

It IS a nice looking truck. Well...was.

Since this is not even vaguely hobby related, that's all I have to say. I will bow to the moderators, govern myself, and move along to the next, hopefully constructive, post.

There was a story on Robert Stack's Unsolved Mysteries show years ago about a psycho who had lights on his truck and would use it to pull women over...who were never seen again in one piece. Not that YOU are psycho for having a light (I like it!) but as far as what might go through some people's minds...?...just sayin'.

You have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about and you are quick to judge others without knowing all the facts. And it is a total waste of my time to reply to you. I don't waste LEO's time. I don't call the police on me. And no I will not bow down to officers that push their badge in my face. Pure and simple.

And if you look at my post count over 12,000, you will realize the moderators and owners know me quite well on here. I have been a member for over 12 years. Sitting behind your computer and judging others is not a way to make friends or influence people. This truck and this hobby brings me over 40 grand a year and has everything to do with metal detecting.

How are the bubbles held on ? Is it magnetic so you can remove it anytime or did you drill holes in the roof of the truck ?

Bruh, I think you missed the point.

The whole top of my truck is a moonroof. I had a round metal disk made and powder coated. I attached it to the glass with 3m auto trim tape and had 3 90lb magnets attached to the base of the bubble. I can slide it off

Why only 9 years? Did you retire or were you let go?

Tim, it is a long story not to be put on here for ridicule and discussion. I left the force about 6 months after my parents were killed by a guy on drugs that hit them head on. He survived and got 6 months in jail. That was way back in 1991. My personal life does not belong on here. You might have seen what happened to Low Tide, and it has happened to others.

I thought I was a great officer. I loved to help others. I did not run the highways harassing folks.

I personally like his truck design , sure easy to spot where you park in the parking lot . I also think it is a great way to get the word out about his recovery services , it definatly gets noticed. If it causes speeders to slow down on the highway then that is a plus.

narcissism.....

You have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about and .....

Here we go again.

Troque-master, your notions of "why swat hornet's nests" was EXACTLY my first reaction to Scuba's encounters. Eg.: There's "bigger fish to fry" . And "why draw attention to ourselves ?" And "better to give lip service" (and simply come back later, blah blah). And to the average person, you and I are probably right : This notion of "give me a ticket" and defy and resist, is, yes, *normally* fool-hearty. And I would be the first to agree that this will surely mean that laws will be written to "address our pressing issue", blah blah.

Ie.: As much as I love to muse the legal aspects of our hobby (and "just do it" mentality), yet : I'm also the first to advise to give lip service and move on. Ie.: I'm not one of those types to demand my "constitutional rights" and "give me a ticket" and "fight it in court" , etc..... Because, even though I don't think (like scuba) that I'm doing anything wrong, yet : There's better hills to die on. And I'm not going to "convert every last person on earth" to agree with me.

So with that said, yes, Scuba and I had some .... uh .... debates on this years ago. But I've come to conclude that Scuba is a rare exception to this. So as much as I wouldn't recommend his "defy" stance to the "average Joe", yet for some reason (his "calm/cool/collect" ?), he's seemed to defy the odds.

Thus at first blush, yes, I can see where you're coming from. I too tried to take him to task . Suggesting the folly of his stance. But there is the rare type individual who can navigate this jungle. So he is the rare individual to which this "just give lip service and come back later" admonition doesn't seem to apply.
