NEW! Garrett AT Pro (Updated 10/04/2010 with Video)

If it's being advertised for beach hunting, for water (shoreline, docks, piers, rivers) and has manual GB, then salt minerals not be a problem.

Kellyco has a pre-order price which $100 lower than retail. Do you folks know if that is an introductory price and will likely go up or do you think it will stay at $594?

I know I would be happy with this unit, cause I'm happy with the Ace 250. And I know that Garrett has worked on the Iron issue's and salt issue's. So I might put an order in or wait for the reviews! Our club has some dealers and I'll have to ask them if they get demos early.:p

Great layout by Garrett: http://www.garrett.com/at_pro/index.htm

I think the price will stay around that area. You may even be able to get it cheaper if you call and tell them you don't want all the free crap.

I know where you are coming from....I wondered the exact thing myself. I think the way this thing is getting attention that from simple supply demand economics, the price will surely go up....and soon.

I have pre-ordered one already and am really looking forward to getting my hands on it.

I don't think the price will go up. All detector companies seem to have a "retail price" on their website and the actual street price is always lower.

It takes a special detector to hunt salt water. I want to hear how it does in the wet sand. It would be nice to have a detector that can take a wave and still tell me I'm wasting my time on a Zincoln. But if you have to back it down in the wet sand I'll keep what I have. At least the color makes it look like a tool instead of a toy.

This will make me look at this detector too, or i'll just get a beach machine. Problem is i hunt way more dry land then surf (BEACHES) but when i do get out to the beach i need a machine that im not going to have to worry about "Falsing", ugh... decisions, decisions ......:?:

I'm seeing a pattern here-in April I bought an MXT, couple months later the
MXT Pro came out. Earlier this week after hours & hours of reading/researching I came to the conclusion I'm getting a Whites BH ID 300 for a trip to the Gulf in January. Now what else could mix me up :?::?::?:

Id feel a lot more comfortable about waiting for this one if the Garrett literature said "salt" specifically.

How does one really decide :cuss:

It's gonna be a winner. I foresee Ski getting one. It can't be any worse than that fluty Minelab.:p Garrett is a proven machine and they're getting better. All one has to do is learn their machines-just as you have to learn a Tesoro. I thought I had made a mistake when I got my first Tesoro and afterwards it's one of my regulars.

OK, here's a hypothetical for y'all. What if, Sand/Tiger Sharks got there problems resolved in the next couple months, would you wait for the AT-Pro for beach hunting
JP?

"has the potential to make the AT Pro a superior detector for finding small gold items in freshwater"

A quote from a product description on another forum. "potential" & "freshwater" are the two words that stand out. I'm not knocking Garrett they've got some great machines but, I'm wondering if the AT Pro is going to do the job in salty conditions. Love the part about being waterproof to 10 ft. but...... :?:

Before We Crown the New King

Somebody has to do a field test in Salty Conditions. I need to have Sovereign depth.

After first reading about the AT Pro here I decided to shoot the good folks at Garrett an email. Here is my email and Garrett's reply:

Hello,

I currently own an Ace 250 and I am very satisfied with it's performance on DRY ground. However, living in Florida near the treasure coast, I do much of my hunting on the beach. I have been doing a little research on a machine that works well on wet sand / salt water and have narrowed it down to 2 machines, sadly though neither are Garrett products and more sadly, they are very expensive.

I came across some info about your new AT Pro on a MD forum that I frequent and while the AT Pro looks very promising, I would like more info on it. How does it perform in salt water? How does it perform on wet sand? Has it been thoroughly tested and bugs worked out? When will it be available?

Thank you,

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

The AT Pro will work great on the wet sand beaches and in the Saltwater. It has been tested and it is continually being tested to ensure that we have the best detector available once it is release in November. It is going to be a great machine, it has things on it that Garrett has never incorporated into a metal detector before. Here is a link to information on the new detector on our website. http://garrett.com/at_pro/index.htm

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks and have a great day,

That's interesting,
I emailed Kellyco with the same question, here's their response

"Thanks for contacting Kellyco.

Even though the new Garrett AT Pro was not specifically designed as a beach detector, according to Garrett,

if properly adjusted, it will work well in wet salt sand."

I'd love to preorder but something tells me to wait. I sure wish the Sand/Tiger Sharks would get up and running.
