Predator Raven Model 25...snapped(Latest Update...It's back!!! 22 days later!)

I totally feel, the fire that burns within you, in being treated/ignored by the manufacturer of a faulty product. It's happened to me.

The manufacturer usually plays the "you just want a free product" card because they know they are in the wrong and want to deflect their responsibility as a seller. It can happen on even the smallest of items.

The seller wants nothing more than you silenced, so they can continue selling to the unknowing and not owning up to responsibility. Good for you, Littlejohn for standing up in this!

I'll tell you, I honestly expected to be treated as a valued customer. I own three of their "family's " digging tools. And I use them exclusively, And up until this point was happy with their product.

Linda threatening to discontinue any warranty work in the future because she wasn't getting her ego fluffed up is childish and unprofessional. A case of...if you won't play the game by my rules...then I will take my ball and go home.

Then for George to call and confront me...and complain to me and give excuse after excuse why it took so long and then complain that he had to pay shipping ....which was $8.85 ...it gave me a clear picture of what kind of business I was dealing with.

I don't want anything free from them...which is why I am going to send him $8.85 for return shipping that he paid and in the future will take my business to a reputable company that will treat their customers with dignity and respect...not like their little backyard garage operation. They paint a picture that they are this great American job supporter...that's a marketing gimmick ...one they don't have the intestinal fortitude to live up to!

I own two of them, after reading this thread, if one breaks I will look for another brand. I just hope I will not have to do business with these people in the future. Sorry about the way you were treated. HH

He complained about having to ship repaired item back to you after all that time? You had to pay to have it fixed!!!
... If he had circumstances under which he could not repair it he should have just sent you a new one.

These days if you don't offer the best customer service people spread the word rather quickly.

What is there advertised warranty?

They advertise a 5 year warranty against breakage. $100 + will buy a lot of harbor freight shovels...wait scratch that...they hand you a new one if you bring back the broken one...I have 2 of them and they get abused by my friends and kids and they haven't broken yet in over 5 years..live and learn.

Wow sounds like a seriously poor experience, with what you got back too being sad, sorry it didn't go better. Thanks for posting the experience.

I think it's important that as many people as possible know how they "really" treat their customers...once there is an issue with their product.

That sucks, I would hate to be without my Piranha. For those that say a Sampson won't break though, I call BS! Mine has twice. First time was just like this one, so I slugged and rewelded the handle, second time was handle/footpeg area started tweaking, so I added a gusset to the backside. It works much better now.;)

ive broke 3 shovels in 2 years and I only weigh 170lbs...granted I have only got mine from the local hardware store for 20 bucks...

This spring im gonna try to make my own digger..if i get good enough Il sell a couple on here for cheap

I've been following this thread since the beginning. At first I thought you were being impatient, as time went by I started to consider your points! Not calling you back not telling you when you would get your shovel not answering the phone and having his kid talk to you!! But the thing that really sunk this for me were the threats and excuses!! What kind of business operates like this?? Even if he felt you were totally wrong and abused the shovel, just fix it, smile, call you names behind your back and make a customer for life!! Seriously how much would it have cost him to just give you a new shovel and keep you happy?? Had he done that you would have sung his praises!! I was considering a Piranha but at about $120 bucks if they treat people like this I will have to reconsider my choice!!

I don't think they can discontinue Warranty work if there providing it to others? I guess they could make another experience worse than this one though??

Kinda funny couldn't get them to call you before now George calls you after 1 call to his Wife!!

Was going to buy a Predator but was having second thoughts after reading this post. I know there are 2 sides to every story so I emailed George Lesche and asked him about this.
Needless to say both sides had a different take on this. I was still on the fence about buying one and told George that if he would give me his word that he would stand behind his product, I would purchase one. He did return the last email but did not give me the assurance that he would in fact stand behind the product so I went ahead and Ordered a Lesche Sampson instead.
His products may be good but I know personally after dealing with Garrett and Whites I am spoiled when it comes to customer service and I demand to be treated fairly when I spend my money with your company.

To Mr. Lesche's credit, he did donate 350 of his Predator shovels to the troops in Iraq so the man is a great Patriot, just not a good marketing guy.

That's called a tax write off ...not a patriot. If he was such a patriot why couldn't he communicate with me about my shovel..heck I served for almost 12 years...best years of my life...U.S. Army and proud of it.

And predator and leshe are welded up in the same shed...just a different label....

Y'all can make your own choices with what you choose to dig with...to me it won't change things one way or the other...I merely wish to share this experience to expose this supposed upstanding patriot ...for the customer service failure and denial and excuses that I had to deal with....and refuse to deal with in the future.

People will go on buying their shovels and using them and supporting their company...and I wish y'all the best with that...but for your sake, I hope it never breaks and requires to be shipped back to them for repair, as it is a miserable experience. I wished it had turned out different, because before this whole facade I was quite a fan of their equipment.

I do not think that you can say the man is not a Patriot based on his bad customer service.
Also I believe you are mistaken about the 2 companies, Lesche was started by George Lesche and he later sold the company and then started predator tools. You might want to do a little research on this.
Not trying to get into a p@ssing contest with you John and as a matter of fact I am glad that you started this post BEFORE I ordered my shovel as it is what convinced me to go with the Lesche rather than the Predator

Choppadude had an entire conversation asking seller if he would stand behind his product...
Choppadude bought elsewhere....'nuff said.

Good stuff to know for future reference . They sound like a bunch of cheap skate nickel and dimers and their products ain't cheap and they should back them up. I understand it's a shovel and you can't guarantee them forever simply because only we know the type of wear and tear we place upon our digging tools. But they should repair them at a reasonable cost in a reasonable time frame.

They could pretty much do what they want and make you go through the hassle of small claims court. As far as donating stuff it depends on if it was used as a tax write off. Some people take stuff to goodwill and write off garbage they dumped and used for tax purposes the salvation army and goodwill has to sort through to throw in the trash. You ought to see the junk boats that get donated out here.

Cry me a River ... Quality does not matter ????

For every bad tool, (which has only been one (1) that I keep hearing about over and over), How many good products by Pedator Tools are out there living up to and beyond the Quality of expectations as impressive tools in the field that they truely are ? Let me guess...... oh... maybe arround close to a million just maybe ! Hey facts are facts folks. Every manufacture out there has a lemon at sometime, but you don't throw out the baby with the bath water from one dirty bath. At least most of us don't !!!! Predator Tools are simply Fantastic in the field no -- ifs, and or buts !!!

The point here is they should stand by the product and do the repair in a reasonable amount of time at a reasonable cost . My take on this is that is the concern in this case.

Go back to the beginning and read the post completely. If you would do that you would know that it isn't about the tool. But then you seem to want to keep saying over and over about how great the tools are. I don't think many will disagree with that...it isn't and never was about the quality of the tool....read the post and understand the subject before you start beating on your drum and using your little analogies which aren't relevant.
