I've been looking around for stuff that I can load on my Nexus 7 and use in the field, like my GPS app. I also purchased a coin reference book for US coins.

I am curious, is anyone else using their android machine while detecting and if so, what apps are you using?

I use one on my phone called 'the clock' cos my detector and 99 others from 100 don't put the damn time on

Paultek6, your avatar gives me the creeps.

I hope more people respond to this thread because I have a Nexus 7 and was wondering the same thing.

I have the minelab app. Aside from that, I don't know what else is available. I DL maps to my phone for when I'm in the field.

Here are a couple I like

Here is a great all-around "tracking" type application.

Two apps that I got recently are: Tect O Trak and GPS Essentials. I just downloaded them last week and I have too little time with them to give a review.

Last week when I was ready to bury my pathetic Fisher pinpointer, I downloaded a free metal detector app for Android in hopes it might be able to help with pinpointing. Turns out instead of detecting metal, it actually senses electromagnetic frequency, so no help there unless I'm hunting for ghosts or live wires. :D

Digmate.
Holds pics, notes, maps, finds info, GPS coordinates and more.

Others that are free and all around helpful are...

Zedge...tons of free ringtones and notification tones

Opra mini...the fastest browser I have found.

Alarm clock plus...a great alarm app...

Super Swiss Army Knife...some cool tools including a compass...

This is a good idea for someone to produce...theres nothing out there, we know what we all want on an ap, so someone out there should start some programming to do it...they would have potentially a few million downloads just in America, and sponsors galore.

So a question which ill post a thread for is "What would you want on a smart phone app for metal detecting'?

If you have old maps available MAPRIKA is the best app I have. You can sync a old map or a picture of an old map to Google maps and ive found it to be pretty darn accurate for finding old cellar holes. Sorry to say but anyone who isn't on board with todays technology is going to be left in the dust with this hobby. They will be at the library reading books while i'm driving to the site their researching because I pulled it up on the computer the night B4:lol:
