Hello All,

I have a problem with my detector beeping out of control when I'm in all metal mode. Wondering how I can troubleshoot the problem. It is a RadioShack version of a Bounty Hunter Lonestar. (I know, right?) However it has always found cool stuff. I am ready for the next step in quality but before then I'd like to fix this one in case I keep it, sell it, or give it to one of my nephews. Anyway, it starts good and goes through all of the initial signals but it seems like the simple inertia of moving it around causes the thing to beep uncontrollably, even in open air. Not sure if it's a problem with the coil, wire, batteries, etc. Please let me know if anybody has experienced similar problems. Also, is the connector for the coil standard? Can I upgrade my coil or am I stuck with tracking down another radio shack one? Thanks.

only thing i can suggest is to make sure your coil is clean or coil cover if ya have one, check your batteries and all connections. maybe take the batteries out and see if you can maybe reset the detector. as far as another coil, your gonna haveta find another radio shack detector of the same model if thats the problem

Thanks Dogpound. Now it won't beep at all. This thing's real erratic and now I can only think about all the stuff I've been missing and all the false signals I've dug. I'm thinking fisher

Did you happen to drop, bump or get the coil wet? Intermittent sounds like it could be a loose/damaged inner electrical connection problem in the coil.

Replace your batteries. If you can test them make sure they are not drained. Check where the wire goes into the head and make sure it isnt loose

i had a bounty hunter tracker IV and had a simillar problem. mine would beep for a long period when i 1st turned it on... i mean about 5 to 7 seconds. 1st thing i thought of was the batteries, changed them 3 or 4 times. then i was told it was the wire running from the coil to the box. changed that also.(from my 2nd bh unit) before i put any more money in trying to fix this unit, i just bought a garrett ace 250. they have a great deal on them right now and i love it. wish i would have bought this unit in the 1st place.

New MD

If and when you are ready to buy a new MD contact several of the sponsors/dealers here to get your best price. Here are several I have used and know to be recommendable. In Order of my preference Bart at Big Boys Hobbies, Marcus at Hollands Brook, Randy (I think) at West Texas Detectors, and Andrew at New England Detectors. I wouldn't bother to much fighting that Radio Shack MD.. It comes to me to what is your time worth to you???......... Good Luck and Happy Hunting.....:biker::digginahole::biker:
