I did a little dirt fishing today and landed a 1898 Indian Head penny and 1942 Merc and two wheat pennies a 1946 and 1948D. This is the 1st Indian head penny that I've found in several years. This is my second silver of the year.. the first was a 1935 Merc.. that is badly worn. I found it last week about 500 yards from where I hunted today, that day I also found a dropped 58 cal minnie and what I believe could be a fired minnie. Where I hunted is on the path of Forrest's Raid.
I don't get to hunt much due to hip pain.. I carried my Sampson shovel today.. it sure makes it easier getting up after diggin'

I use my Sampson the same way, although I dig with it most of the time as well. You can dig a very neat plug with this thing, pop it out, find target and put the plug back in! Kind of like digging a golf hole!
