Found a huge lead ball on Saturday. It's one
inch in diameter. I have a musket ball fired from a French musket in 1677 and a dime for comparison purposes.
Also found a 1916 Merc on Sunday.

I found two. One round and one kinda squished.. we were thinking mill balls. Anyone ever come across mill balls ? ( if there is such a thing).

Mill balls are a thing, but I've not seen them in lead. That would be super soft to grind anything down. It could be a kind of grape shot for cannon use, or even just a weight to something.

I found all these in about a ten foot circle near a site that used to be a gun powder mill. I was thinking the same thing maybe some kind of mill ball. These ones are brass. Which would make sense in a powder mill you really don’t want sparks. Dime for size comparison.

Maybe it is a grinding ball. I scrapped the surface a bit. It is definitely lead.

That’s right. I remember now and they weren’t lead. I’m gonna see if I can post a pic. I’d love to know for sure what they are
