Colebear's Cellar Thread - *regularly updated*

Thanks Roger, IP and I have been exchanging messages on a few of my recent tough IDs but this one is actually pretty straight forward on ID now that I've done more research. I will defer to Iron Patch on the final say but to this point I conclude that it is the 1655-1658 Louis XIV Rigth Facing Crowned Liard type A. Which makes it my oldest copper to date and the second crowned Louis XIV Liard from this location

Pretty interesting that my 3 oldest finds to date are all from this same watershed and are all french coins 1595 Douzain D'Avignon, and 2 Louis XIV Liards

Here is what it would look like in mint condition:

That is just AWESOME! This rang up in the 50's on the deus?

Yeah, mind you that isn't the picture of the one I found but a reference picture of what it would have looked like in older days. It rang up in the low 50's and that is due in large part to this issue of liard being a copper alloy with a base metal (can't remember which).

Well after over a year of living outside of MA I came back for a short visit with some of the folks around here, and I'm managing to get out for a few hunts.

On Sunday Jressman, Boretti4Blues, and I got out for a little hunting. Bopped around and I managed to pull a rosie ('46), 2 flat buttons, and this cool naval button

After the hunt I went to try and track down a few of the more questionable cellars I had on my map of possibles. Unfortunately I went 0 for 3 with no good signals of any mention.

Today I went on a solo mission to find a mid probability cellar, I found the area but not quite sure I found the cellar itself. Either way I did manage to pull 3 flat buttons, including a tombac, and a fairly toasty 1817 Matron Head. Also found 6 mid modern shot shells (new club and new rivals mostly).

This seemed to be part of the structure which was referred to on the map as a "cottage" on the 1850 map. It is an elevated level platform made from stacked rocks

Great finds. Congrats. Would love to hunt an area where there is the possibility of a large cent being found.

Good showings the last 2 days led to a fruitless day today, hiked all over through scrub and brush like you wouldn't believe and didn't turn up a single target of value

Daily sought found ratio: 7:1 (14.5% success rate for finding the cellars)
