Hi All,

First, thank you everyone so far for all of your tips, as well as your comments on my post from my first beach hunt (Orchard Beach, Bronx, New York). I appreciate the insight and as a new member, I find this community extremely kind and welcoming.

I am heading to Atlantic City area this weekend for work, but plan to metal detect the beaches some. I've been doing my research, watching some videos of others on that beach, but I've also read claims that the beach it very often detected and doesn't yield much. I can't tell if those are claims are substantiated in any way. Has anyone here tried the Atlantic City beaches, whether historically or lately? If so, do you have any feedback or advice. Regardless, I plan to take my shot, but as a young (but enthusiastic) detectorist, I wanted to see if the community had any input.

Thanks, cheers to 2021, and happy hunting, everyone.

Well for sure it's never been hunted by you.....and maybe your style of hunting will yield something that someone elses style of hunting missed. I've started telling myself that.....it's probably rubbish.....lol....but it gives me a little bit of a positive boost. Good Luck in Atlantic City !!!!

I'm in CA, so I can't comment specifically about the accuracy of that. But I think I can compare it to a beach we have here, that is also a big draw amusement tourist zone :

It has a very high number of md'rs. But conversely, it also has a very high # of beach users making deposits. And despite the heavy md'ing pressure , yet, when mother nature is eroding, then it really doesn't matter how lame it was to hunters @ the days and weeks before that. Because conditions can change overnight.

But if you meant the dry sand, I dunno. I suppose if it's detected to death, then sure, you'll be scrounging for whatever's missed, or whatever's freshly lost.

I go once a year in the summer. If you are running the Nox you may get some EMI and force to lower your sensitivity. In front of Bally's I had to lower mine to a 15 or 16. Normally, I run it at 23/24.

I have hunted there many times. Under all that sand is a never ending supply of iron. Atlantic City is old. It has changed through the years. The iron of yester year was left behind. The sand gets replenished. Then over the next few years it is taken away. About a dozen years ago the sand was probably at an all time low. Silver coins were everywhere. Mention the Octopus to a local beach hunter and he will know exactly what you speak of. A twisted mess of rebar exposed by a storm back then. Over the last few years I stop by and hunt in front of what is left of casinos. Fresh drop season can be rewarding.

EMI can be an issue from the piers. A super large coil like the Nox 15 inch will make it worse. Stick with a stock coil. Right now if sand moves who knows? You might get lucky.

This will be my second beach hunt, and I have an Ace 300. Any tips for best setting to deal with all that iron? Even if I find nothing, I am just loving the hunt. So a great hobby, only took 35 years and my wife buying me my metal detector for me to get started.

On the Ace 300 I believe you can notch-out the iron so you don't even hear it. It's also a single frequency machine, so you'll have to lower the sensitivity near and in the wet sand to eliminate the false readings. Good luck!

Thank you so much Jeep. Yes it does have that setting for iron. I don't yet understand how best to use sensitivities, so thanks for the guidance. I will do just that!

Hey All, I wanted to provide an update. I arrived in AC around 1PM on Friday and the weather was bearable - about 40 degrees and not too windy - so I hit the beach. Tides were high which was unfortunate. I also believe they have cleaned through the sand on the beach, at least where I was, as nothing was coming up on the dry. After about 45 minutes I found my first coin, a penny, and I proceeded to find a string of them, including several I found right on top of the sand. Overall I spent about 2 hours and found a handful of pennies, a quarter, and what I am pretty sure was once a costume earring. Even though I didn't find much, it was nice to try a new beach. Unfortunately it was windy and below freezing the next two days so that was all the metal detecting I could do. But I did win the few bets I made while down there, so it was a profitable trip! Here are some photos:
