Yesterday I headed back out to the sports field thats been so good to me lately. And it didnt disappoint.
Managed to pull a 54 Rosie and 41 Mercury dime for silvers #30 & 31 before getting booted off the field for soccer practice. Both dimes were 8+" deep. Nox had no problem sniffing them out.
Returned this afternoon to see what else i could find. In the same general area as the day before, the 42 Mercury (#32) was perfectly on edge at around 6". Nox saw it just fine, it was just a very short high tone in the upper 20s. Not too far away the 45 Merc (#33) was a little deeper and laying perfectly flat.
Here's were it gets interesting. Its a little before 5pm and minivans full of kids start showing up for soccer practice so i get pushed into a corner of the field not being used and get a solid 24 on the Nox. I almost passed on it thinking "screw cap" but decide to dig it anyways. Out of the hole comes the head of a huge square nail. Refilled the hole and replaced my plug and bam, a high tone in the 30s, a few inches outside the perimeter of my last hole. Cut another plug that overlapped the one i just filled in (think Venn diagram). Pinpointer goes off so i carved a little more out of the bottom of the hole, and set my digger down. Thats when i saw it, stuck in the clod on the end of my digger. 1854 Seated Quarter (#34)!
Content with my take for the day, I half-assedly double check my hole with the pinpointer and it goes off again. Get serious real quick and lock onto the target and carve another chunk out of the bottom of the hole. Flip the clod over and im staring at another quarter, 1861 S (#35) this time. Check the hole again and its clear now. Third time in a week that ive gotten sat down in this field and it just boggles my mind.
Sorry for being long winded again, but im absolutely giddy right now. Thank you all for looking and happy hunting this weekend!
