Got the opportunity to hunt 2 different sets of Confederate earthworks in recent weeks and made a few cool finds along with a nice handful dropped Gardners. An interesting lead filled disc with a button shank about the size of a dandy has me a little stumped on what it actually was, being a bit small for a rosette and a bit big for a button ?
#$%&, man. That is some really cool stuff.
I envy you CW state residents! You will probably still be finding stuff like that decades from now. I love the brooch..button...whatever it is...that's great! It's hard to say if it was a ladies' or gents' thing. It could have been either or.
I rarely find stuff that old around here but I found this odd strip of ornamental metal in front of a crumbling overgrown foundation near an old farm yesterday. It scored high on my Gold Kruzer's discriminator. (The dime I found elsewhere. It's just for perspective.)
The weird brassy cleat I found about 75 yards from the strip on the same farmstead. It has a "14" written on one end. That was found with the Bandido set on high discrimination.
