Found this old pocket knife at an abandoned homesite I believe to be from around 1900. The handle appears to be wood. I would like to clean it to hopefully be able to tell the maker. I read something about soaking it in oil but I'm not sure that applies to wood.. Any help would be great, thanks.

Me personally I would just get some hot water coming from the sink and run it back and fourth through it. After that i might try some P.B blast on the blade part. Idk about the soaking in oil. Wood handle pocket kifes are hard to clean IMO. Most knifes i find are either to far gone to save or made from cheap plastics. The knife you have looks better than any of the wood ones i have found, they are cool finds. GL man

I was surprised at how good the condition was, it was under a couple pieces of iron so I think it was protected a little bit.
