Hey all,

I was just wondering if anyone has seen any markings like this before. They are on a cornerstone in the foundation of a house built in 1766. I've attached some pictures, so please let me know if you have seen these before or might know what they are. Thank you!

I haven't seen these particular marks or anything but I do know that back in the day when people had pride in what they did they liked to leave something behind stating that it was their work. My assumption would be that the masons that laid up the foundation carved these in as a maker's mark of sorts or the original owners did it or had it done for the same purpose, like having kids put their hand prints in fresh 'crete and writing the year next to it. This pride in workmanship of course wouldn't happen today because everything we build is pressboard !!!! sent from from China to a big box store...:(
