That is Not a Box turtle. It is a snapping turtle. I am very familiar with both. The box turtle shell is more round across the top and it does not have that mouth that the snapper has

Nice. I saw this one the other day, about a foot long alligator snapper... I found a baby one while detecting once too.

Gabby, great photo. But, I’m afraid you live too far north to see an alligator snapper. The one in your photo is a common snapper. You can tell because the back of his shell is smooth. An alligator snapper has high raised points on it’s back.
