We are getting hammered with rain and I decided to clean some square nails we had found. Electrylosis is a pretty dedicated process for nails.

I soaked them (about 50) in Evapo-Rust for about 16 hours and they came out pretty well but there was a coating that became hard very quickly , I Dremeled off one and it was too time consuming for the result. I then put them in a tumbler with fine and coarse grit and water. They came out well but seemed to be taking on the grit color. Needed to hit here and there with Dremel for stubborn spots.

Has anyone used a similar process, what media was best? Steel shot?

I was thinking of combining the process and just putting the Evapo-Rust in the tumbler and leaving for awhile.

Anyone doing anything similar?

For Iron I only do electrolysis, none of the other methods you described. Afterwards I dip in paraffin and then buff with a microfiber finishing pad.

For nails? If you want them clean real quick a sand blaster would be ideal...
