Any recommendation on a smaller Legend coil to use in parks? I was thinking about hitting a local park that was used for
tons and tons of community events before they went and converted it to baseball fields, but think a different coil would
be better to avoid making large holes in the grass... or am I missing something? Smaller coil would be more accurate
in finding where to dig right?

Hi Frood.

The purpose of a smaller coil isn't really about target pinpointing accuracy. The benefits of a smaller coil are lighter weight, increased separation / unmasking performance, and better EMI mitigation. With that said, the LG24 9.5x5 coil is a renowned Legend coil for trashy sites.

I don't know what method you use to pinpoint, but you should be able to pinpoint very accurately even with larger coils using "detune" pinpointing, or "wiggle" pinpointing.

For the wiggle method, you hone in on the target as you normally do, then do very short wiggles while moving the coil back. When you lose the signal, the target is just in front of the tip of the coil. You can do the same with a forward wiggle, and the target will be just in front of the back of the coil tip.

For detuning, you hone in on the target, then only move off of the target by about 1 or 2 inches, then press the pinpoint button and go back over the target. This will "detune" out most of the targets signal, so that instead of getting that long, eardrum shattering pinpoint noise, you'll get a very short "blip" sound. When you hear that short blip, the target will be under the center of the coil. Be careful though, because if you press the pinpoint button while directly over the target, you can detune out the whole target, and then you won't hear anything.

Great post here! Yes, a small coil is going to help you narrow down to target and make smaller holes until you learn to pinpoint really well. That's just something that gets better the more you do it.

The Nokta LG 24 coil is a very good coil and separates extremely well. It is what most people prefer to use. Unless they are just coming for depth and coverage they they stay with the Stock coil which is still a very good coil.

Thanks for your input guys
BBH, I just bought an LG24 from y'all for the same purpose. Pinpointing with that big coil in the trashy areas I'm working is a bit tricky. I also get some double pings when I go over a single coin with the big coil. Takes a sec or two to narrow it down. Personally, I'm looking forward to this smaller coil. I got spoiled on the little F22 coil. I know it's no comparison, but will put me back in my comfort zone.

Dig, in going to try both of those methods and see if that helps me.

Just assembled my new Legend and am getting everything charged before playing with it. For the Nokta promotion, they also included the LG15 6-inch coil. Would the same info, that's been provided for the LG24, apply here as well? And does the shape affect anything (LG24 being oblong, the LG15 is round)?
Thanks.

That little 6" coil is a killer. Possibly even better at separation than the LG24, but does not cover as much ground. I have both and they are both really good.
