New to the forum and detecting

being in the Berkshires, the ground is still pretty much frozen I did attempt to hunt a bit on Saturday thinking its been warm enough especially with the warm temps last week, I hit a local hill town park had a couple of good hits but the ground is still pretty frozen so I gave up made a note in my book and will go back after the ground thaws, I will probably head back down the valley possibly hit the Ct. river area again weather permitting.

Welcome from California. I would check in your area and see if there is a metal detecting club. Our club has weekly outings where they get together and go metal detecting as a group. One of the members may loan you one of his/her metal detectors for a few hours to try it out.
There are a lot of metal detectors out there and the club might just point you in the right direction of which model works better in your area.

Hi and Thanks, there is a local club located a few towns over they meet second Tuesday of the month, I think I will try to make the next monthly meeting, also I purchased a new Nokta Legend a few weeks ago, I've been out with it a few times trying to learn the machine I would be out more but the weather here in the Berkshires has not been cooperative,
