Are these two tin cans from an MRE? I found them at a former messerschmitt forest (where messerschmitt fighter planes were produced in the forest in the final phase of the war) there were also the american army and on some bags from this MRE you can still see remnants of the contents (powder)

KFW welcome to the forum from Northern Michigan.

By the looks of what you found they would be C-rations. They had most of their contents in cans. And they taste like death warmed over too.:rofl2:

There where no MRE's back then. What you have are probably part of
C-rations, or K-rations. A C-ration was a canned, pre-cooked, single meal. Whereas a K-ration was a box containing 3 C-rations (breakfast, lunch and dinner). These rations where used during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. They were eventually replaced by MRE's.

Having said that, I remember eating C-rations during my Army days in the sixties. Looking at their date stamps, they were canned back in 1945. They tasted like it too.

Likewise, in 71 ours were dated from the Korean war. I grew up hungry so I actually thought they tasted pretty good. And the little care package, I looked forward to them. They had cigarettes, gum, matches, toilet paper, a toothpick and a few other things I can't recall. In the late 90s I had a retired Army Capt. give me a couple cases of MRE's. I wound up donating them to the boy scouts. I'm sure they didn't go to waste.

I would like to introduce myself, but where is that possible, because I am from Germany and have difficulty reading the title of the forum?

First off WELCOME to the forum. Usually, the General forum is where most people introduce themselves, but this works for me. Good to have you here. Tell us about your detecting experience. Are you very new to the hobby or have you been at it quite a while.

I was born in 1985 and have been interested in history and metal detecting since my earliest childhood. These finds are in fact about 8 years old, but I had the idea to post them on an Ameican forum only a few weeks before.
