It's Been A While Since I Found A Ring

I finally was able to get out for a couple of hunts in the last 2 days. Yesterday's hunt included several permissions along with a considerable amount of curb strip detecting. Older finds were hard to come from. I got a single Wheat from one curb strip, and finally saw silver in the form of a 1945S War Nickel from a permission. Clad and Memorial cents were dominant.

Today I decided I would visit an older area in a local town/neighborhood. Things again were slow, and the curb strips in this area are narrow, not the nice wide ones I usually look for. I was fortunate to acquire 3 permissions, but the yards were very small and unproductive. I decided to wander a bit further afield, and was surprised when I popped the ring out of a very unlikely looking strip. This is the first ring I have found since last September, and the first silver ring I've found since last August. At first I doubted that it was silver because I didn't see a 925 hallmark, but on closer inspection, noticing the stylized deer, buffalo and bear images, the maker's mark with the arrow and letters, and after weighing, I'm sure it's a Southwest Native American silver product.

I'd appreciate it if anyone who recognizes the maker's mark would let me know who it is. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and read my post. Good luck to you all.

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

I find rings almost every other hunt, what i have YET to find is a old silver coin.. hard to come by on beaches without a storm ripping feet of sand layers off. the hunt continues!

If you clean out the stamp with the arrow a little better it might be easier to identify the silversmith. There may be fanciful alpha letters under the arrow (FA???) that may be resolvable.

Here is such a site: http://www.art-amerindien.com/hallmarks/a-indian-native-american-jewelry-marks.htm
There are other sites.
Thanks for the information RJ. I did clean out the mark and it pretty clearly is FA. None of the references I can find identify this one.

Very nice (and chunky) silver ring. Congratulations.
Thank you.

Congrats on both types of silvers! Those elusive war nickels alone makes for a good thread read and the ring just adds that much more enjoyment.
Thanks LNCB. At least the war nickels usually come out of the ground in better shape than regular nickels and have that special "shiny" look to them that makes the recovery a little more exciting.

Congrats on the silver! Nice work. :mder:
Appreciate your looking Wolf-Dog. Thank you.

I'd love to find more rings, and the beaches seem to be the place, but I have yet to score much on the local beaches I have worked. Maybe I need to change my approach or locations. Thanks for looking.

Nice finds Gale! Glad you were able to get out a bit and pull the Silver Nickel and the Sterling Ring. Both are good finds for sure!

Thanks David. Still gotta love those Missoula finds of yours. Hopefully we'll be able to get together again sometime to do some hunting.

Ring has look of possibly being native American too tired to look thru this site I found...

Thanks Cfmct. Appreciate the link. Looks like this mark is an unknown on that site. I agree that it looks to be Native American. Still a great find for me.

You may never know... it could be just a guy who makes small batches of rings or just a custom ring... there are a lot of sites the one above and this site: https://www.925-1000.com/americansilver__Icon.html

Is that a letter with a arrow going through it? I was searching this morning there are a lot of books on SW native American makers marks...

Yeah, it's definitely an FA with an arrow passing through them. I need to do a bit more research at some of the sites you mention. Thanks for the additional input.
