How to test stones when no longer in a setting?

Over the years I have amassed a fair number of stones from jewelry I have sold or was mangled. Most are stones that were sent back from ARS in Texas when I sold gold, so I know few of them are real. I have a Diamondnite diamond/moissanite tester, but how would you suggest I test a stone that is not in a setting?

Holy F++K what a bunch of stones, that's so crazy, you need to meet up with an honest gemologist. If half of those are the real deal, you're on easy street.

Most cheapo diamond testers come with a metal bracket to hold the gems. Like this:
That's a good start. Bought one of those off amazon, not the same as a legit gemologist trained eye. Better than nothing and a good place to start.

I see some "foil back" stones, those most likely are glass. Find a good pawn shop or even a jeweler and take a few at a time. They will test them with a persidium tester.
