DEUS 2 after warranty work

I sent it in for warranty work, sent me a new coil, bad circuit board. I took it out after getting it back and was testing it in the wild, no planted items. I came across a 90-91 signal faint tones and shortish line. I tested it in stock programs: general, deep HC, park, fast, mono and two programs I run based in general and Deep HC ( silencer 0 reactivity 1 ) programs were barely hitting it.

I dug it out, copper penny(good shape) the depth was less then my MI 6 pinpointer, target was 8 inches. Those with a DEUS 2, what are your thoughts?

I think something is still wrong, it will hit iron down well over 14 inches but the ability to hit coins seems to be diminished.

Your coin could have been tilted - reason for weak signal.

The Deus ll loves hitting iron deep. It will hit iron at the beaches I detect about 2 feet deep. Never hit a coin that deep. Gorilla glue a couple coins on a paint stirring stick and bury them. Post hole diggers help.

Iron will certainly have a halo which will help see it at depth which you know. I’ve dug some REALLY deep nails in turf with 3-4 different machines, but never a dime past 9” so I chalk it up to the bigger signal thanks to the leaching iron. That being said, you’re running the same version, same coil, same settings….all of it? Has something changed in the environment? A hunter who pays CLOSE attention to their machine will know when something isn’t right, and you could very well be correct.

I have a park within a block from my house which I’ve hunted 20+ times. So that hasn’t changed and there are areas in that park that have no structures for at least a 1/4 mile. I’m not noticing any EMI and the machine is not chatty.

I would hunt with it and notice faint tones and those coins were at least 10” deep. I would like to ship it to another user and have them use it and get their opinion.

On the XP ORX, ground level is one or two bars, so very low ground mineralization. Same with the Teknetics Omega 8500. We have black dirt down about 16+ inches in southern Minnesota

With the 9" coil, the deepest dimes I've been able to detect were in the 9"-10" range. The signals were very faint, even with what I consider to be the most alertive audio (pitch). Someone who wasn't paying close attention might've walked right past them. This was at a site with very mild soil. On most other sites, 8" is about the max for me. That's the norm.

The perceived loss of depth could be due to a few things such as different ground conditions compared to previous hunts (ie. moisture), EMI, nearby contamination, or as was already mentioned, the position of the coin in the ground.

You know your machine and what it should be capable of. However, it could also be that since you've already had to send it in for depth issues, you're over-analyzing everything now, which is perfectly normal to do. I'd say put some more hours on the machine and see how it pans out. If after a couple more hunts you still feel like the depth is off, maybe get it looked at by someone else who can compare it with another D2 on the same target.

You are probably right, thank you for including the depth of your finds, that is the information I’ve been looking for.

I’m also probably over critical based on winter is just about here and my opportunity to detect is just about done. We have a trip planned for January to start driving south from southern Minnesota and heading towards Shreveport and find random places to detect.

Rattlehead is right on with his 9 to 10" depth capability of the 9" coil on wild US dime sized targets. Expecting any more than that is asking for a miracle even in 1 to 2 bar iron mineralized dirt. Hitting an 8" deep US dime sized non-ferrous target with relatively accurate target IDs in my area is a really good result with the 9" coil but the dirt here fills half to all of the iron mineralization meter.

I’ve been thinking about different variables and the one thing I researched was precipitation. We have not received much rain this year and according to the annual average we are about 25% below average. That stat didn’t even cross my mind until it was brought up about conditions changing in my environment.

The ground I’m digging is definitely not wet and is actually relatively dry. That will also hurt signal quality and depth of targets you are able to locate. I will continue to monitor but hopefully the new coil and hopefully added moisture will get me back to where I was before.

I ended up downloading the update multiple times until both the erase and update process went smoothly with no glitches. I’m now running version 2.0 and it’s working properly.

I hit a silver dime over MI6 deep and it hit it in both Deep HC and Mono 4 kHz with a few program tweaks that I run. The target showed up on xy screen as a deeper target and it was.

I’m glad the weather here has been unseasonably warm so I could get out and run it before my detecting trip at the end of January
