Calabash deleted his content

Hey, leave diggin Britt out of this! That's my future ex-wife your talking about there! 🤣
She ain't the only 1. When someone starts a Youtube channel but is new to detecting, and getting tons of views and "affiliateships", all because of their "ass"ets, that is a disgrace to the real diggers that have put in thousands of hours learning the hobby and making real finds. But sex sells, always has, always will.

Any person who puts themself on Youtube is inviting criticism and drama. One way or another, there are plenty of people out there who have a mission in life to always be a troublemaker or problem. Those types never give anything positive and they always find a way to point fingers at others to keep the pot stirred. Human nature and a numbers game. For every 100 people, at least a certain percentage of them will be total tools. The bad part of all this is that the good people who were hoping to learn something or enjoy a video are suddenly plunged into the pit of sewage created by the haters and trolls.
Calabash was intense, he was very opinionated, and very vocal. He drew attention to himself. The odds were not in his favor because where there is someone with such strong opinions there will always be a mob of others who take offense to that.
Personally, I didn't have a problem with him. I found some of his videos entertaining. I never took them seriously enough to think "oh hey, he really taught me something today". What I did walk away feeling was "Why keep hammering on this, let's see a hunt where things are being found." You can't only focus on armchair reviews and test garden bit pieces over and over again. There has to be actual hunts, actual finds good or bad. That is what people want to see. The truth is what people want whether it be good or bad it is still the truth.

It's up to people to decide for themselves if this detector or that one sucks. You can't stack tests against one detector or another if you are fully aware of what its weaknesses are. Yeah I think what happened was Calabash just got too into getting something out of this. He stopped realizing it was about detecting and it became more "It's me against them" from what I seen in the videos. He took the bait, the haters set that hook. He rage quit essentially. I hate that for him.
Who cares what others think of you. If people talk trash, let them talk it. The more you feed it, the bigger the trolls become. So- don't feed the trolls or even acknowledge them.

Well, the only reason these people keep "winning" is because of the enablers. Whatever happened to the days of people just being who they are and showing what they enjoy? When did it become a competition and contest for "who's the greatest"?
I don't know what the world thinks but this old boy is content to enjoy metal detecting and tuning out all the drama and mess. Let's see machines do their work and make our own conclusions.
Get off Youtube and endorsing these fakers. Just get out and detect! it was never about Youtube. We've been doing this for a long time before "the internet" and long before "cell phones". Let's get on back to the roots and beauty of metal detecting and get fresh air and just enjoy life.

I personally enjoy watching YouTube detecting videos, both educational and hunting. I watch some form of metal detecting related content almost every day. There are definitely plenty of annoying know-it-all blowhards and fakers on YT, but just as annoying are the anti-YouTuber crowd who goes out of their way to criticize anyone who puts up a video. It’s almost like cancel culture. There are PLENTY of good channels who put up quality content and real finds. I have no doubt some of these guys put in a LOT of work to make those videos, so as long as they’re not shilling, begging, or putting out false information, if they can make a few bucks doing something they enjoy, good for them! Bottome line is, nobody is being forced to watch any videos. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. It’s as simple as that.

I agree, I dont need "youtube" to enjoy relic hunting. But if you wade through all of the garbage there are still a few pearls to find, reviews on machines and what not. It just became a talent show for alot of people and the companies reward a pretty "face" whether they know anything about what they are doing or not. My enjoyment of digging relics is just fine with or without Youtube.

You have to take all these youtube "stars" with a huge grain of salt. It always seems to start off great until they get promotions, free machines etc so they push a certain brand etc. Most are so over the top even Disney would have a hard time coming up with something as good.

The truth is right now there are so many good machines out there and none of these guys seem to be stressing how important it is to learn the nuances of your particular machine and just go out and have fun.

“Learn the nuances of your particular machine”. Generally speaking, that is just about the entire ball game for most people. Just about…for most…
Calabash was always at his best when he was just out hunting. He needs to get back to what he’s best at and leave those poor birds alone.

It would turn out to be a KOB….
What I didn't like , he should have never compared detectors from different manufacturer's , that is what reviews are for , he should have never used a test garden for you tube video's , that's for himself only ! Comparing other manufacture's detectors against other's-, your asking for it . Now it wasn't always bad , as his live hunt's on you tube - not comparing detector's was OK , but on his you tube video's mentioning my forum name- along with many other's, in a negative way - was NOT GOOD  Not getting involved with what he was into , or for what , but that's were he crossed the line , along with bashing friendly. Now he's free to do whatever , walk the plank , sky dive , Scuba 300 foot under , to be honest , I think he will enjoy a better life without the drama & bumping heads , after year's of this , he made the right choice :facepalm:

Kind of mind blowing we are 9 pages deep on this. I think the horse is already dead, but here is my kick since we are already this far. My only problem with calabash was him preventing discussions by not allowing comments on his videos. No one could ask questions or present other opinions or information about settings used or how the tests were set up. Other than that I never had much thought about him one way or the other.

Agree totally.

Yup, he loved to trash the Garrett AT Pro, but disabled comments so no one could disagree with him. If you believe your opinion is correct, why not let others post their views on the subject?

Because some egos cannot handle criticism or a different opinion. One of the main tubers out here , when he 1st started out , was called out for fake/staged finds. By me. This guy was used to compliments and suck ups. Well , he threatened to sue me for liable if I didn't take down my post. He denied all fakes , but I knew better. Told him he's posting publicly and I have free speech and a different opinion. His video rapidly got buried with bombardment of more videos. Lol

I've got no time for guys that are driven by a weird need to be seen by others as "something special". Just be a good dude.
Exchanging info is great, but we've got a handful with a mesiah complex.
They feign that they "only want to help others because they are so selfless". True colors always bleed through.
You can smell their desperation a mile away no matter how hard they pretend. It's really kind of pathetic.

Most of these YouTuber critics ( and I use the term as loosely as possible) - don’t know what they are talking about. Why? Because I have never told or said in any video I have done to like or subscribe. I have said folks they could leave a comment in some videos if they have any questions, and I would try to answer or even do a video to help answer their question(s). Yeah. I have never claimed to be expert with any detector. I also have had well over 100 hours on a model at the time it was released to public. So I could talk about it and share data. Because I had used while testing for manufacturer. I couldn’t care less about the views, subscribers, likes on my channel. My channel is for info for the public so they choose to watch. I also share other things, some hunting related. Use of Rimfire rifles, etc. and even some video from hunts I do. I have collected $0.00 from YouTube as it relates to my channel. Yep that’s my thoughts, and my story and I’m sticking to it.
You may not ask for subscribers BUT every other post you allude to “this can be seen in my video” “You can see the results in my video” “ if you care, watch my video”
Every forum I see you on you always go out of your way to plug your videos.
I get it, you like to be the center of attention. You have made that clear since the first day you posted. It’s all about feeding your ego.
If I were you I would start charging for the videos as you will need that $ for rotator cuff surgery due to all the patting yourself on the back.

Since when does doing a video (earlier) and mentioning it to help someone with a question or problem become a pat on the back? Hmm
Sounds like TNSSDS. Hmm

Some of that salt beach info only basically helps you anyways. Salt in the water changes, etc. I remember someone said their Deus ll coil must be broke since it wasn't going as deep. Some days even the same beach one day you might hit a coin at 16". The next day you might struggle at 10". Me and who I hunt with run different detectors and test real time targets in the ground. Usually the Manticore and Deus ll hit the same on the same day. They both will go 12" deep or they both will go 16" deep. If they don't you need to tune it for that day.

“Done been putting vids over there.”

Translation: I have been putting videos over there.

If you’re going to play “gotcha” with one of your 3.6 posts per year, you have to do better than that. :D
