Bottle and Beer caps.

hi all,

Do bottle or beer caps give a silver reading? I had silver readings 6 inches down but couldn't dig because the ground is still frozen but I also got nickle and pulltab readings for the caps on top of the ground. can caps give silver readings? I will be detecting in a large park this season which is heavily used for b'ques and picnics with lots of beer bottles. Should i avoid under and near picnic benchs?

It depends on the cap. With my machine some sound like coins, some sound like pull tabs, some descriminate totally out. I'll often dig a deep cap thinking quarter.

Picnic areas are diffcult hunts.

Those flattened aluminum screw caps give me trouble. But they usually make a very high pitch when pinpointing, unless they're deep.

I have an MXT also and The flattened out caps mostly come in as a quarter. The good news is that a flattened out quarter comes in as a quarter too I found one the other day that had been obviously put under a train and flattened and didn't change the reading.

The "Old" bottle caps, flattened with the cork & tinfoil can sound like small Gold rings between depths of 10"-14" on my Sov & X5. Most of them will break up, but still get 5 or 6 every hunt on the beach's here! H.H.:-)

You need to plant you a coin/junk garden and then you can practice an know exactly what it IDs and sounds like.

Old 1970's pull tabs were high in zinc and nickel, so that is why you get simliar readings. There really isn't a whole lot you can do about it, just dig and try not to get too frustrated.
