My father made me a set of hand made knives. He made he blades from a bolt from a tank, and he made the inlays of the knives from goat horn. He also hand made the scabbards for each of the knives.
Over a year ago I took my cousins on a camping trip and during the camping trip lost one of the knives. I have returned to the location numerous times to search but have never found it(with out metal detectors). This is a picture of the remaining knife and scabbard. The empty scabbard was for the missing knife:
One of the primary reasons I purchased the metal detector was to try to locate this knife. I have been out of work because of an injury and resulting surgery to my dominate hand and have not been able to get up to the area to search. My cousins had been asking me about metal detecting, so I asked them if they would be willing to go back to camping spot and search. They agreed.
We got up to the location and I showed them how to use the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. I turned it onto all metal mode and just showed them how to sweep it. One got to work the pin pointer and dig, while the other used the metal detector and then they would switch off. They were excited after we found a clad quarter on the first target. We also dug three bungie cords and an old hinge. The sixth target we FOUND IT!! I couldn't believe it! The inlays were made from natural horn and it appears some animal has chewed them up a bit, and there is rust onlong the blade to the point I can't open it, but I am still blown away that OVER A YEAR later, we easily found it. I think with some TLC it might be workable again. Here are the pics:
And both of them back togather again!!
I am completely blown away. I was on the phone with New England Detectors (http://www.newenglanddetectors.com/) when my cousins found it. I was checking on the status of my Lesche Digging Tool which I just ordered from them on Sunday, and I was being informed that I was getting the tool for free because of I write up I had did about them and their AWESOME customer service. So I was already way beyond happy and when I turned around my cousins had the biggest grin on their faces and held up the knife...I was sooo blown away. I should go out and buy a lottery ticket or something.
