Many thanks to Minelab crew USA for your professional expertise in getting this old hunter "back in the game"!

With Kindest Regards,

Did you snap the lower rod yet?
Craig the rod isn't what broke. The part of the coil where the bolt passes through attaching it to the rod's ears was snapped off! The new one looks a bit stronger, but only time and hard use will tell!

How does the new one look stronger. Aren't they the same ? Lol

I know the rod didn't break... I was working my way up...

Having returned the original Manticore to Minelab I am unable to make a direct comparison between the coils, but the new one seems to have a bit more material where the break occurred. As I said before "only using it out there will tell".

I believe the glue could have effected the plastic like Minelab said. I use to race remote control cars and the glue we used to bond our rubber tires to the rims was some nasty stuff. If it came in contact with the lexan shells that we ran for the bodies of the cars it would make them brittle and crack.

Glue is glue!!Right? This seems to be the mindset of some people, but I know that when it comes to the chemical composition of plastics and many other things this isn't true!
I spent many years of my life working at a wide variety of jobs and have had a lively interest in my surroundings and the people I worked with. I traveled the world in the military and lived in 5 states, Texas, Colorado, Arizona, Florida and Connecticut! I spent 4 years in the USAF as an aircraft weapons technician and a couple of years working on an Airforce Base in Arizona for Lockheed as a civilian doing the same job. I then re-enlisted in the USAF and spent a year in Vietnam, 3 years in Germany and settled in Connecticut in December of 1970.
I worked as a mechanic for United Nuclear as part of a team building a power plant and got laid off for the first time in my life when the company had a major layoff. (Last guy hired, first out the gate), I then worked for Cheeseborough Ponds as a machine adjuster on a production line that filled Vaseline jars for 5-6 months until the pressure and noise of the job finally forced me to take another job as a plant handyman for a private company building industrial bandsaws, and several other industrial machines.
I started as a Plumbers Helper in 1972 working for a plumber that grew up in New Jersey as a third-generation plumber. After 4 years I got my journeyman's license and decided to learn what industrial plumbing/pipefitting was all about. I went to work for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft as a plumbers/pipefitter's helper for a year, a pipefitter for a year, a foreman for two years and after surviving a major layoff spent another year as a pipefitter. (Due to a senior foreman losing his shop due to cutbacks and being given my job) By this time I had applied/tested for my contractor's license and started my own part time plumbing business! (1980) Two years later I went at it fulltime and retired last year on November 1st at 81 years of age Google rated as a 5-star repair plumber! Since the early 1980s I have been a metal detector hobbyist as mostly a water hunter!
The sole purpose of this diatribe has been to reassure some folks that I am not some dim-witted has-been trying to destroy my new Manticore on a whim!!!
I must admit that I hadn't considered the possible chemical reaction when I chose the glue I used. I based my choice on years of experience with this very glue! Lesson learned!
A very wise man told me one time that any day that one fails to learn at least one new thing has been a wasted day!!
:chaplin:Sincerely,

CJ
