Lesche BROKE!! UPDATE: Pics

My Hori Hori knife is way stronger than a Lesche. I love it!

Pretty cool! Never heard of a Hori Hori knife.

They go for about 29 bucks on eBay.

They are supposed to be made out of chrome moly steel, about as hard as you can get. Dang did you stick it in something and stand on it BS ;). I cannot imagine breaking either of mine. Also one question, do you clean it after each trip? If not it will corrode and pit which could be leading to a failure. I wash mine each time I get home and then spray them with G96 gun treatment. They will not corrode with that on them no matter what.

Jack,

I've stood on it once to pry on something...Maybe I've been to rough with it? :?: I'll try your technique out. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks everyone else for the condolences. It's a major loss. My weekend and part of next week is completely out for detecting, unless I do coin popping...Ugh. It is very tough seeing such a nice digger go the wayside. :( I'm going to talk to WW and let you guys know how they treat me and if they can send a replacement. It is disturbing that mine broke in the same spot as the other guy's.

Thanks Dan, I just ordered one. :D

Never heard of a Lesche cracking! Need a pic if possible!

Thanks Carol... Let me know what you think about it... I have heard from many that it is a much improved design.

I am shocked by the pics of the Lesche cracking though... That is not a common thing. We do sell them too.

I posted some pictures. I really hate this because now I have nothing to dig with. I may try that digger, Dan. Is it really as good/better than the lesche? For $20 I'd be willing to try one.

As far as it being as good or better than the Lesche I will let you all be the judge. It is only on special at $19.95 for you guys on the forums. Lowering the price to get the new design out and tested by the people that use it most. We normally sell it for $34.95.

For the $19.95 deal, you can't go wrong though as the Razor Edge Gator Digger DOES have a lifetime warranty from Kellyco so if you have any issue with it, all you have to do is let us know and we will send you a new one.

Try it out... If you do, let us know what you think..

I've had tools like yours before & bent them too.....
Kellyco use to sell the one pictured below but not sure if they do anymore.

If you can get one of these ( below )........you'll never bend it.

Good luck...........see ya yardhunter

That is the Sawtooth Gator Digger. We do still sell it on the second line of items on the page linked below...

Diggers and Trowels Page at Kellyco Metal Detectors

It is not quite the same style as the Lesche or Razor Edge Digger... More of a trowel style... Good product though for sure.

Thanks for sharing yardhunter!

This is from the other post... "I contacted customer service at WW Manufacturing in New Jersey and they instructed me to return the defective unit and they would be happy to replace it. It was that easy, no fuss, no muss, no hassles, just great customer service. I didn't even ask them if they would replace it and was not expecting them to since I had used it well for nearly a year. I just wanted them to see it." Seems to me that the manufacturer stands behind the product. In order to have that same design for so many years and replace them with no questions asked.... You'd kinda think that they don't receive a huge amount of them back in order to replace like that. I'd contact them. I've used some real stinkers of diggers and none has compared to the lesche for durability. If you look at the other link in this thread it looks like both of them broke at the same spot. Perhaps a weakness in design at that point. I'd call them.. what could it hurt. better than buying a new one!

I agree! I had leches before and none are as sharp, hold thier edge, nor are as stonge as my Hori Hori. I highly recommend spending the 29 dollars on ebay to get one. The only problem I had was the handle (bamboo, I think) slit down the length. A little gorilla glue fixed that.... But what a digger!!!!

Thanks for the reply beefcake. On Monday I'll be contacting them and telling them about the apparent design flaw and requesting a replacement. I've not even used it for a year but I feel lost without it. It's a solid digger.

It is hard to tell from the photos, but it appears that the notch might not have been properly radiused and became a stress riser leading to the failure. If so, it is certainly a manufacturers defect.

Here's my Hori Hori knife I use. I beat the hell out of it. Prying rocks and roots and all kinds of stuff!

The Hori-Hori knife is the closest thing that I have seen to my 30+ year old 3-in-1 knife. The metal goes the full length of the handle. The new 3-in-1 knives aren't built that way. I had a Lesche for a while. I had to sharpen it when I got it and the guard hung up on everything. More than once I quit forcing it because it felt like it was ready to break. I have never felt that my old knife would break, I have actually hammered it into rock hard clay that my pick bounced off of. I have dug through rocks and bricks over the years. It is probably about an inch shorter than it used to be from 30+ years of digging and sharpening. I have built up the wooden handle to make it easier to push into the ground. If I ever have to replace it, it will be with a Hori-Hori knife.

Bigboar,

I also have a broken Lesche and a Killer B's headset, my Vaq is not going deep enough in my soil, my girlfriend is pi**ed at me and my car is making some funny noises....any help here?
:D

My lesche has slightly bent but not enough to affect performance.

Mine was slightly bent too. That's why the crack formed I believe. Go easy on yours. I thought mine was indestructible with a 'slight' bent too and look what happened....It's only a matter of time. I hope your soil is kinder than mine.

Exactly! Lesche has the best reputation around for making a durable digger and standing by their product.

So this is a real shock to hear they can be broken!
