How Many Clad Hunters Are There Here?

I've only been detecting for about 4 years, but I'm primarily looking for older items, whether it's out of circulation coins or interesting relics. Basically anything older than me with writing on it that can be researched is cool in my book :D All that said, I still happily dig any clad that I encounter along the way, because why not? And clad certainly represents the vast majority of my actual finds. But for me, if all I dug was clad, the hobby would quickly become uninteresting. Maybe if there was more clad in my area to be found I would feel differently, but I rarely come home with more than a couple bucks in clad each hunt - the public spaces in my area have been hit too hard already by past detectorists, and we all know clad isn't getting replenished as fast as it used to. I'm frankly in awe of the guys who consistently bring home $10-20 in clad each hunt - I've literally never encountered any site near me that would allow that sort of total in one hunt, let alone consistently. My maximum clad total for a hunt was about $9 at a lake beach in 2-3 hours, next highest was around $8 at a former golf course, but that took about 4 hours.

I have 3 main hunting trip types

1st is the deep woods cellar holes. Not going to find clad on these trips. Most trips you find not much at all. these trips will take up most of a day to complete.

2nd is the beach hunt. main thing I am looking for here is gold and silver jewels but most of what is find is clad. these trips will take up most of a day to complete.

3rd is the short after work tot lot or local park hunt where mainly looking for clad. these trips are short 1 to 3 hour hunts.

This past weekend I cashed in a few years worth of clad and bought myself a 10 ounce silver bar from a local coin show.

I'm a mega cladder here. I average $1,400 per year. Hunt for clad only but lately looking for gold. Found over 11k in clad since 2013! That stuff adds up!. 😁

That's a huge clad haul and impressive annual clad count. When I was hunting regularly, I was pulling $300 - $500 per year in clad and thought that was pretty good but $1400 is awesome.

While I prefer older stuff I will happily hunt for clad. My last couple of hunts turned up only trash so for a change of pace I went out Sunday and did a nice little clad hunt at a local school. I had a good time and added a few dollars to my jar.

A smile came upon on my face. I am happy that pescadore still lives. For anybody who doesn't know this hunter, the stage for this hobby was made around him, and I was lucky enough to have met him when I was begenning this "stupid to most people" hobby. Every thing he will ever say concerning metal detecting, is pure and good knowledge.

I'm a clad hunter. That's what there is in our contemporary society. Noxdude is my hero. He pulls more clad than most of the detectorists on this forum. I can't keep up with him, even though I pulled $1500 American in 8 months last year. He's way ahead of me on an annual average.
Clad is good... it buys new equipment. Clad makes this a net zero cost hobby. The found silver and gold is just a bonus to keep the wife happy while I'm out detecting hundreds of days a year. Absence makes the heart grow fonder......... Keep on cladding!

Aww.. thanks wasatchau for the nice comment! Bro, you got to be the fitness mega cladder out there! Are you in Utah? My wife did try to be a cladder once but it was very short lived. 1 and done she said.. lol She could not keep up with me. She does support my hobby and now has respect for what I do!

Sometimes a little competition is a good thing! :detector:

I like water hunting for gold best but I don't always have time to take a half or whole day to scuba dive or wade a lake so I have a detector in the truck most of the time. If I see a good spot in my travels I hunt it, love the clad and this year I got 2 gold out of the dirt. I clean the clad in a cement mixer then roll it all up and cash it in. This year I found about 225$ and I'm going to buy a 7mm wetsuit with it to extend my water season longer. Love the clad and it's great exercise and beats being stuck in a traffic jam. GL everyone!

I don’t always detect but when I do it’s clad!

What he said x2.

I have only started MDing a couple months ago. I am happy to dig clad. I won't turn down anything more valuable though!
