Well, Where do I begin? My NOX experience so far...Picked it up on Friday, made it home by midnight...Watched a few hours of Youtube vids...Figured out how to put on the screen protector by 4am...thanks again to youtube, I figured out how to 'pair' the wireless phones by dawn...By noon Saturday I had it fully assembled!...Exhausted!

Then I went hunting Sunday for @15 minutes, damn thing didnt work! ...So I went home and watched more youtube vids....By Monday morning I finally figured out how to turn it on!....Watched more youtube instruction vids...did a factory reset...and TODAY I finally took it out hunting!

I left the headphones in the car on account of its just too confusing and went out commando...and swung this rig all the day in various places I am familiar with! Beach,Water, totters, schoolyards, parks, heavy iron and pulltabby/bottlecappy to be damned places I've been to 100's of times....

So heres what I have to say with roughly 8hrs behind the NOX screen...and heres the finds I've previously missed...

Its not as fast or as comfortable to swing as my F70...In fact, the balance is all off and its top heavy..the balance point on the NOX is about 2' in front of the grip, where on the 70 its only about a foot...The weight is all in your hand and it wants to roll itself over..Not as bad as an AtPro... but still worth the mention....A guy has to rethink the swing format to run this rig fast and long on wide open stretches...

This is a huge factor for cutting a wide fast swath...I can feel the NOX workout in my shoulder and elbow right now.....it doesnt snug down into the web of your hand comfortable like the 70 does...With the 70, you can swing it all day as if it was nothing but a twig...The NOX is not as uncomfortable as the AtPro however...so thats good...

Yes it works on Black sand better than the Atpro, yes, you can hop coil and stoopNstab clad just like with the F70...Yes the 50 tone and proportional audio feedback is dead on..a guy can tell a Q at 3" or a D at 4" if the sense is dropped to two bars...so it will be a great Cladhammer...a guy dont need to push the PP button on account of you can hop coil, big plus there...Yes it hits deep...

IMPORTANT! A funny and good thing I noticed...without the headphones, the handle actually vibrates due to the speaker being in the grip....the sound vibrations are transmitted right into your hand! so a guy can use this rig totally deaf! Or even in the dead of night to easily pinpoint the target by hopping coil! That was really cool! Like a vibra wand kind of feature!

Its pretty damn impressive though, I hit some multidenom tight spills that were simple to unravel, some multidenom stacks too...a pair of nickels close together, easy to isolate tight targets and stab them...easy to tell scrap from coins in a tight hot mess...

I got fooled a few times by some sweet sounding deep screwoffs, but hey, who hasnt! My Wife got fooled by a sweet sounding screwoff 40yrs ago, and She has a pretty high discrimination setting, reject and notch out capability, low threshold factory settings even!...

This is the first time I've ever hunted without phones, it was sort of nice...

...I remember I was so unfamiliar and intimidated with the F70 10yrs ago...I ran it in AT for a solid year straight! It took me a month to figure out the AtPro! I have to watch youtube vids to see how to put waders on!

Yeah...this is gonna be a challenge for Poor Old Mud!...But, as they say, 'Nothing worth a diddly damn comes simple!' Well I do!! Youtube save Me!:laughing:

Then shorten your rod! You are running too far in front. Shorten it so its just in front of your feet and its great.

Congrats on the new machine! Also congrats to your screwoff accepting wife! that’s great!

I agree...i used to swing mine wau to far in front...and my shoulder pain almost had me in tears...but mow i keep my elbow glued to my waist/hip area and problem solved.

Just for a laugh...i went to my local park.

Im primarily a beach hunter...so i said to myself that im gonna dig 8 holes and then go home.

Put it in park 1, iron bias 0, 5khz and sensitivity right down to 10!

I dug 8 holes and found 8 coins!

This Nox on pasture is an absolute ANIMAL!!

I LOVE IT!!

Your journey has just begun.
Nice report.

Keep them coming.

I think If I can get the various settings figured out, especially the tones and pitch just right, store them all, THEN I will be rocking this rig! We all hear things a bit differently, so its a matter of tinkering and tailoring the multitude of available features to suit my ears...IF I can figure out how to do it!.

I am impressed With the NOX overall, ...I know I have to commit to learning it, leaving my other rigs in the house for a week or two...and what, 6-8hrs behind its coil is no kind of conclusive...

Right on bruddah!

I really value your views on this new rig of yours..

I'll be watching, looking forward to hearing more from you about this. Funny how some of the things you mentioned, although valuable, have never been spoken by guys that run ten new machines every half year.. Things one could only notice by being super tuned and "one with" maybe one or two machines..

Thanks for sharing with us!!

Good luck Mud!!!

Nice write up Mud.Its hard to beat the ergonomics of a Fisher, light and perfect balance
Sounds like you got a new hobby for awhile, learning the nox.Not a bad thing,at least your getting paid for it,with your finds.. looking forward to the good ones you'll post when you get them, congrats on the rig.

I cut a pretty wide swath..thats my gig...I have monstrous big beaches and sportsfields etc...I have developed a very good ergonomic body motion to deal with this...I just need to tweak it somewhat for the NOX to control the momentum...

I have well over 10,000hrs behind the F70 stretched, and at least half of that swinging the Pro..so I'm gonna evaluate the pressure points and modify my body motion to fit the NOX's natural momentum/balance/weight.....just a minor tweak or two, gotta settle down a a bit and not be so overzealous I'm thinking....Like new shoes, a guy has to get the feel and all that kind of thing...in a few weeks I reckon I'll have it flying ok.. beers and aspirin...

Right Ice!! I got this thing primarily to find me GOLD! Dirt and Water! Ok, sure, it seems to be a capable cladhammer, so thats good, that will keep me interested and working it......Still though, our Forum Brother NC Toad warned me....said for the way I hunt with what I have, a guy like me might not be gaining any noticeable advantage by going with the NOX...this seems to be the case at this juncture, after one day out...I know its up to me to prove me wrong, which I intend to do as I have done in the past..

A guy with two arms dont need three rigs...a guy with one head dont need two hats, a guy who dont use his head may as well have two buttholes! Well...I was hoping to get down to one to simplify things around here!..

Tell you what Woody..I really dont like learning new rigs..It takes a lot of effort! I like being comfortable and familiar with something solid and dependable! Something simple and steady and never lets me down, easy to operate, heavy...Like a good tool or my dog, or Rosie my car, or come to think of it, even Mrs Mudd!..

I aint in this Sport for the Fun of it or the research! I'm in it solely for the Money and Treasures!! Thats what the ads said! Hell, If Vlad didnt pay me a dollar per post, I wouldnt be up this late at night replying to YOU would I?

Well...I was hoping to get down to one to simplify things around here!..

When you've consolidated, and you're ready to let that F70 go.... I have a place on my mantel for it. Autographed of course. I'd never wield it myself. That'd be a kin to swinging one of Tiger Wood's championship drivers!

You can't force one detector to be something different. Minelab cut the weight as much as possible, but you cant really cut coil weight without turning it into a buoy in the water. You also arent going to be able to modify YOUR body mechanics to compensate for the front weight. You can't hold that beer stretched out in front of you for long without arm fatigue, its just facts.

So, your options are to shorten the shaft, or mount a counter balance under the arm cuff. Both have the same effect of moving the weight balance farther back.

I dont know if this is possible...Sort of like that Movie Avatar?...The crippled guy goes into another dimension and discovers a brilliant and wonderfully exciting world waiting?

Thats how it is with me and My F70...I get up all crippled, and pop on the phones and then our brains become one! Like that one guy did with the flying dragon? Then he proceeded to fly around and really kick @ss? Yeah! ...I dont know...have you ever been on a flying dragon? Like the Guy in Avatar or the little viking kid in 'How to Train your Dragon?' Or even like that blond chick in Game of Thrones?

I dont know...this F70 finless rig was intended to be out hunting on the daily, gobbling up Clad! Would not do well as a display over a fireplace mantle...Time and Gold wait for Nobody!...

I’m also a large swath guy. The Equinox killed me because stock it doesn’t get long enough to cut a large swathe and keep my elbow in. The Pluggers CF shaft fixed that for me. Now I’m blazing 8-10 foot arcs with no fatigue.

OK! Now we are talking! You gotta keep that elbow in tight and swing with the hips and torso! Rocking side to side and using momentum and leverage to power the coil and not the arm!!

Thanks Chris!....Folks always be giving me fluff when they see me swing! Still, I can keep coil flat on the deck and fast and blaze away! Yeah...burning along like a Kansas Wheat crop Harvester with a sling blade! Big wrap around dubble digit arcs!..a guy can cover some realestate in a gosh darn hurry and effectively! I aint into no little 4 foot 'feel along' arc like a blind man on a sidewalk...

100% Agree! As I am evaluating today...I know I cannot swing this NOX as fast or as far as the 70 up on the dry, I also know I cant take the 70 into the water...My Life in Detecting involves both disciplines...Thats why I have the Pro...for the water only...But dammit, I sure would like a rig that could do both at least half way decently!

I was hoping the NOX would be fast and capable on the dry, and capable in the water, dealing with the black sand and iron...

Which it seems to be...So now I have to adjust myself to its build and balance..In the water its no issue, a guy cant swing fast anyway...and on the dry, well...its fast enough...I just cant get ahead of myself and overpower it is what I'm thinking....I will have to slow down just a bit, modify my behavior and mechanics......probably not enough to make a big whoopdeedoo of a diff in yearly income...

But yeah..it would sure be great to go Surf N Turf with just one rig!! This was my primary idea regarding the NOX......Both the 70 and the Pro are flat out proven killers...
