My Equinox 800 Take (Tests and Commentary)

Friendly reminder here concerning wireless headphones supplied with 800 model.

It is possible for a person to leave on, thus killing your battery unknowing.
See page 10 of manual.
Top right hand corner in Equinox screen depicted. See the little pair of headphones. When your headphones are turned off this will disappear.

The tone heard when turning headphones off is not very loud. To me anyways.
It might be a good practice to get in habit of turning off wireless headphones first, then verify in your detector's screen they are off before you turn detector off.

Thanks for the tip...

Thanks for the tip...

You are welcome.
Now, if a person gets audio from external speaker this would also mean wireless is off or on but not paired correctly.

Side not here.
Might be a good idea to mark your wireless headphones in some fashion so as not to go them mixed up with another Equinox user should you detect with one.

I wonder if there are any other high speed options for headphones? Seems like this machine may have the door open in terms of connectivity. I will get other head phone that are bigger if The option is out there.

Short answer is yes.
Craig (Detecting Mo) actually plans on using something with his 600 model.
Now what I can't say is if you will like.

Craig far more knowledgable on this subject than I am.

I'm waiting on mine.. Don't know where I am on my dealers list.. Not too big of a hurry as I'm still recovering for my surgery.. nice to see tips on the Nox while I'm waiting and getting able

I think a lot of this will speed initial familiarization.

Hope you get yours soon.

tenn, bigelow charts his 1905 indian head penny as a 22. Your "final generation IH penny" came out 18/19. Just curious what you mean by final gen. Is there a date on yours? Thx, man, really look forward to your findings.

1902, slightly worn in pic.
IH coins are known for not having real good consistency. Etrac and CTX bear this out too.

The early ones are called fattys and they read even lower.

What is the warranty on this Equinox ? They were saying 3 years but now I read it might be 2 years ?

Okay,
Just tied to check Equinox on a $2.50 gold coin a friend of mine has. One problem it has a bezel around it. So reading not accurate. But did swing the fine gold chain over the Equinox coil. ID reported ID # 1. Part swept did have little small clasp.

I know the $10 gold eagle I found came in a perfect 12 37 zinc cent on the CTX. Spanish cob came in a 12 34. Slightly rotten zinc cent:shock:

This is not my video.

I sure wouldn't want folks to miss watching it. Since there are multiple Equinox threads running here. I will make this one exception here and post this link.
I can't get over how nicely the buried gold chain gets hit with detector. Gotta be dream boat outfit for coastal beach hunters.

Some feedback using battery pack with Equinox.

I was doing some settings changes in the house yesterday.
I decided to hook a pack up to Equinox and let detector run on external battery power as well as charge the internal detector battery. Equinox internal battery before hooking up pack not run long since it was fully charged.

Pack used was rated at 6000 mAh.

Equinox purred away, and detector charge light was working fine.

Based on what I saw with illuminated percentage of charge shown on pack as the pack was used, 6000 mAh likely too small. A 10,000 mAh pack a better choice. The first 15% of the 6000 mAh pack's charge was eat up pretty quick.

I will use one of 2 of the 10,000 mAh packs I have next and see what happens and report on.

:(Here is a pic.

The pic obviously nails above us nickel (non war nickel). Nickel is two 2x4s thick distance wise beneath the 2 nails.

So what about Equinox here?

I want folks to read this and use at own risk.
Why?

There are 2 outcomes really using Mulit frequency depending on ground balance.
If I do manual GB and turn tracking off, test results not near as good vs if I leave tracking on.

When I bob coil detector balances at 1 or 2 in air.
But using tracking, detector seems to go to 55 in the meter.
Notice this test conducted around 16" off the ground. The detector may be still see ground effect and tradking.
If I bob coil over cut of clean wood 16" off the ground, meter goes to 0,1 or 2.
Turn on tracking, start sweeping test scenario, not good result but if I keep sweeping the detector performs better and when I go to GB and look in meter it is reading approximately 54/55.
Anyway.
Using Mulit freq, tracking GB, park 2 sens 20, iron bias 0. Best signal achieved (good signal too) speed setting 7, good 2 way hit, and can achieve signal what looks to be 7" approximately above nails. Speed 6 setting, when sweeping from the right ( where bigger nail is) to left, signal can be hit and miss.

Btw I should say, if you hit the horse shoe button, imo Equinox reporting smoothed up some. (Extremely small)

Nest logical question here for some folks.
What about the mighty Deus wearing 11" LF coil here?
Alright I checked with Deus wearing 11" LF coil.
Hot program GB manual 88. Disc levels of 0 and 6 full tones reactivity levels 3 and 4.
Deus reporting when swept real close to nails, a user might think big iron the way it sounds. O disc.
Biggest difference I see though, coil height reporting.
Deus tone is getting fuzzy as height grows. Reactivity 4 clears it up some, still there though. Beginner detectorist imo if they swept this situation like I did at coil height, they could be fooled moreso using Deus vs Equinox (assuming they have each detector set up with primo settings to strike the nickel and nail situation. And I did try reactivity 2.5. Sounded bad like iron.

I ordered a power bank to use with my Nox, it should be here tomorrow. The one I order is rated at 50000mah.. from what I've read is that most of these are over rated above actual mah.. but should be adequate for the Nox. I currently use a 2200mah power bank for the transmitter on my Deteknix wireless headphones for extended search time. Thanks for posting

Different pic/test..

This time a clad US dime sitting just one 2x4 thickness below nails. Tight scenario here.

So what does Equinox do?
Park 2 Mulit freq, iron bias 0, tracking GB (54) in window, speed setting7, good signal. Can get good signal even with what looks like at least 6" coil height if not more above nails. Speed setting 6 is again hit and miss when coil is swept from the left side.

Deus here wearing 11" LF coil, again coil height, as it increases tone sounds compromised, user better be on their game. Tried some very reasonable/realistic setting too.

I even check this setup using the mighty Nokta Impact. Stock coil, remember it is 7x11". I like Impact's performance on this 'one' test better than Deus wearing 11" LF coil, especially at increased coil height(the way tone reports).

I even did above test using Deus 9" round HF coil. Did not like what I witnessed. Person could get fooled real easy on not knowing dime is down there. Tried all freqs. Lowest 14.4khz had best clues with coil closer to nails being swept 28.8khz allowed for more coil height. But this coil use here didn't top Equinox performance.'one test' remember.

New pic/test.
Alright a US clad dime beneath 2 nails. Notice 2 2x4 thickness deep beneath.
I actually used Deus wearing 11" LF coil to set this test up. This is as close as I can move nails in towards dime and fet a signal I would even think about digging. This scenario here, Deus will signal using both reactivity 3 and 4.
But signal differences /coil height differences noted.

What about Equinox?
Park 2 multi freq, iron bias 0, tracking GB, speed setting 7, Equinox underperforms to Deus when Equinox's coil is closer to nails when swept, but as coil height increase Equinox starts winning. Strange sounding up?? At highest coil heights comparing the 2 detectors, Equinox the winner.

Based on just this one test, I could see each detector hunting behind the other, depending on actual detecting scenario on a target in the wild, one may find the other not, and vice versa. Both detectors food performers here.
I report you decide.

I do know I dug a nonferrous target the other day with Equinox in the wild, I was surprised at how high above target depth plane the nail was. Maybe this test here is truly painting at least part of Equinox capabilities in the wild detecting.

Please do a test on your garden, even though it may not be mature---compare it to the Impact--thanks.
